Advice on writing CVs

Listen to an interview with a recruitment expert, who talks about his experience of reading CVs and offers some good advice on writing them.

Do the Preparation task first. Then listen to the audio. Next go to each Task and do the activity. If you need help, you can read the transcript at any time.

Task 2

Task 3

Weak forms are syllable sounds that become unstressed in connected speech and are often then pronounced as a schwa.

In the sentence below the first 'do' is a weak form and the second is stressed.

What do you want to do this evening?

Weak forms are very common in English. Listen carefully and fill in the gaps with the missing words typed out in full.

My congratulations & the best wishes to you. I haven't had such interesting and useful experience before. Thank you very much. I hope meeting to you again.

I don't like when people attach their photos to CVs too. I think it's an unnecessary thing unless you are not applying for a job in a model company. One of my job responsibilities is to check a generic e-mail account of the company and a lot of CVs come there. We usually don't keep CVs on file, but when there is a vacancy announced I used to open and scan an application form before forwarding it to a relevant section. Sometimes I wonder why people don't bother even to fill in our application form or ignore such important parts as competences or motivation. Many people just send us their career history and contact details. I know that our HR department sends such applications to bin. May be these candidates are not motivated enough though...

It's true. But some jobs need to be goodlooking person. For example in my country when you want to be a saleperson you should be beautiful, have a happy face and have a easy way to contact with other people

Hello! In my country it is absolutely necessary to attach a personal photograph. It seems that sometimes is more important how the person look like. Thanks

Hi. I'm from Iran. Here is as the same as there, specially when you are a woman. But the most important things for finding job isn't a good resume!!!
