Elementary Podcasts

Elementary Podcasts are suitable for learners with different levels of English. Here are some ways to make them easier (if you have a lower level of English) or more difficult (if you have a higher level of English). You can choose one or two of these suggestions - you don't have to follow all of them!

Making it easier

  • Read all the exercises before you listen to the podcast.
  • Look up the words in the exercises that you don't know in a dictionary.
  • Play the podcast as many times as you need.
  • Play each part of the podcast separately.
  • Read the transcript after you have listened to the podcast.

Making it harder

  • Listen to the podcast before you read the exercises.
  • Only play the podcast once before answering the questions.
  • Play the whole podcast without a break.
  • Don't read the transcript.

Now, listen to the podcast and do the exercises.

Hello, i start listening to this elementary podcast after my friend suggested me to download the app in playstore. I followed all the episodes and learnt how native speaks. This really helps me to improve my english. By the way, i love all the topics but talking about Sherlock Holmes is the best one. If i have a chance to visit UK, i will go to his house and take a photo there, haha. I am waiting for the next episode of this movie series. And about Jamie, if i were him i would take the opportunity to have a research about orangutan in Borneo since i was graduated from Biology program. Protecting orangutan from extinction is very important. Moreover, Borneo is located in my country, Indonesia, and i can tell you that this island is so beautiful. But, yeah, it's up to Jamie to decide the best option for his life. Ok, this is my comment, and i am curious about the next story of Jamie and Carolina.

Yes, goodbye the team. You're still there with us. I agree with those who liked series one and two, they were, or are very interesting; section by section. But too long also. You need about thirty minutes for one episode.
Series three and four are shorter: about ten minutes. You can listen one episode again and again, three times in thirty minutes. Very helpfull!
Thank you very much and as soon as.

Hi I'm new here

Hello everyone,
I like all the podcasts of adventures of Carolina and her friends.
She keeps me in suspence and the curiosity about the future of Carolina stimulates me to continue this adult english course and to learn english vocabulary and grammar.
I like episode 6, series 4, when Carolina saw Emily's boyfriend Cameron kissing another woman.
I like your comments about "tell or not tell the truth to Emily?" It is very hard to answer when we'are dealing with people's feelings.
I think your request for comments helpful for us to improve writing.
I look forward to listen series 5.
Thank for helping me to improve my English.
See you soon.

Let's face the truth... Actually English language hasn't the "Future Tense". I mean the English verb in the Future Tense hasn't the specific morphological characteristics... That's why people try to express Future Tense with a various auxiliary words... And this is true for all Scandinavian languages and even Russian... Maybe the harsh conditions of the Northern nature did not allow people to think about the far future? Perhaps people lived in the present, and this was reflected in their language.

Isn't it inconvenient and confusing?
Could you tell me why?
In the Tasks 6 and 8 boxes for answers are placed above the questions.
Hello LearnEnglish Team!

Hello krig,

Thanks for telling us what you think about this. Our technical team is developing a new version of the exercises and I believe the new version will improve this, so in the future this should be clearer.

All the best,

Hello LearnEnglish Team!
I agree with melissabeff. I think first series of Elementary Podcasts were more interesting. I liked Tess&Ravi's dialogues, Gordon's jokes, quizes and stories about different famous people. May be you will turn back to this format?
