It was really a great history.

Hi Paulo.....romance languages like french, italian and probably your language make not difference between the academic study of past events called "History" with a the retelling of a simple situation that happened in the past....called a story. Here you would called the situation a story.....but the the "story" of world war II as the "history of world war II

2.If i had done that it would be nice for me.
Or
If i had done that it would have been nice for me.

Or
If I were you then I wouldn't have done that.

Sir please help me. For that I shall be thankful to you always

Hi Hanslal Singh,

All of those sentences are correct, but the meaning of the sentences in each pair is different.

The difference in the first pair is between a firm/certain statement about the future ('will') and a statement about a hypothetical situation ('would').

The second and third pairs are examples of different conditional forms: second conditionals, third conditionals and mixed conditionals. You can find more information on these forms on this page and this page.

Best wishes,

Peter

Hello Sir,
Could you please tell me why we add the word 'the' in
Do the ironing
Do the washing-up
Do the housework
Do the laundry?

And, if it is possible, is there a way we can remember spellings easily in English? I thought the spelling of 'laundry' was 'laundary'!

Hello Adtyaggrwl,

These are set phrases in English which always have 'the'. The reason is that in each case we know which ironing, washing up etc. we are talking about: the ironing (washing up etc.) in the person's house. Therefore we use the definite article.

I'm afraid there's no simple way to remember spelling in English! There are some rules... but there are also many unusual words and exceptions to those rules. The best way is to read as often and as widely in English as possible which, thanks to the Internet, is not too difficult to do these days. You might also use our spelling games to revise and test your spelling: Spelloween and Wordshake.

I hope that answers your questions.

Best wishes,

Peter
