Nice video.

Hi, in this documentary some expressions confused me . I want explain.
There (is) lot(s) of food
(A)big congratulation(s)
She use plural with( a )and (is)

Hi monaia,

These are unusual expressions, so I can see why you're a little confused. We can say either 'lots of' is an alternative to 'a lot of' and the verb is singular or plural depending on the noun which follows. Here the noun is 'food', which is an uncounctable noun and therefore singular; therefore 'there is lots of' is correct.

In your second example 'congratulations' looks plural, but in this phrase it is treated as if it were a quote, and the verb is singular. We can say, for example:

My congratulations is a little late, so I'm sorry about that.

I hope that helps to clarify it for you.

Best wishes,

In my country the wedding are celebrated similar to British except for horses (I would be very nice XD), I think for a lasting relationship couple should make an effort to deal with financial problem and with the necessities of their children and don't forget details that made your partner fell in love with you.

I have a question: What is the difference between love and want?
The word love is used for someone that you have a strong feeling of affection as a girlfriend?
The word want is used when you appreciate a friend?

Thanks. =)

Hello nash_d5,

'Love' is a strong emotion between people. It can be romantic or platonic (between friends) but it is stronger than 'like'.

'Want' is different. It is a desire for something - if we want something then it is our aim to have it. This could be emotional or it could be practical.

thank you

In my culture, marriage is a very big event. Bride and groom's families sometimes spend more money than they can afford for the reception and the ceremony. The party lasts for hours and hours with too much food. Really a waste of money and food

I think that the most important "ingredient" for a lasting relationship is Respect.

I really appreciated this section. Very pleasant and amusing...thanks!

good video to learn a little bit more about British culture. Thanks a bunch British Council, keep doing the excellent job
