Hi guys,

I have a question for you:

''.sit down and I’ll bring them over to you.''

Them over to you means ''I bring the coffees on the table? isn't it?

Hi visfont,

It means 'I'll bring them to your table' - in other words, the customers don't have to wait by the bar but can sit down and wait for their drinks.

Best wishes,

Peter

Hi guys i have a couple qshns i would appreciate ur help......
first :what does this sentence mean ?....1-crowned by a bronze liberty.2-just before president began to speak the clouds parted, flooding the stands with brilliant sunlight
3-a German born wagon painter (what does it means by wagon painter? )
4-washington boarding house

Hi StrangeGr,

I'm afraid you'll need to use a dictionary for looking up items such as these. Our role here is to help users with the material that we have on the site, and to provide some (as far as time allows) help with learning English more generally. We can't offer a service explaining any and all vocabulary which you happen to find while reading texts from elsewhere as we simply don't have the time to do this.

You are quite welcome to post your questions here, of course, and perhaps one of the other users will be able to help you. I would, however, ask that your question be posted on a relevant page rather than just any page as, firstly, it is more likely to get an answer that way and, secondly, it keeps the site well organised and, thus, more useful for all users.

Best wishes,

Peter

Hello Nawelo,

On the right of this page (and, in fact, most pages on LearnEnglish) you'll find a little search window headed 'Cambridge Dictionaries Online'. Type your word or phrase there and click 'Look it up!' and you'll see a definition, examples and more.

Best wishes,

Hello! Is this sentece correct gramatically? Compare Fred’s life before with Fred’s life after his TV broke.
(Context is:Fred was cough potato before, then his TV broke and after it his life changed.)

Hi mehinaydinli,

That works, though I think a clearer way to say it is 'Compare Fred's life before his TV broke with his life after his TV broke' or 'Compare Fred's life before and after his TV broke'.

Best wishes,
