Modal verbs
The modal verbs are:
| can | could |
| may | might |
| shall | should |
| will | would |
We use modal verbs to show if we believe something is certain, probable or possible (or not). We also use modals to do things like talking about ability, asking permission making requests and offers, and so on.

Hello British council,
Firstly, I would like to thank you for the great job you do.
In the paragraph describing the modal verbs, you wrote "We use modals verbs to show..". However, in the title of this chapter you had used "modal verbs"!
How do we explain that?
Thanks for your response.

Hello Rowel,
Thanks so much for your offer, but this is a free website and we don't accept money. The best thing you could do for LearnEnglish is to help us attract more users. So, if you know other people who are learning English, please tell them about us!
Oh, and if you have a smartphone, we are launching some free apps which will allow you to pay for upgrades soon, so if you want to buy something from us, that would be one possibility. Mostly, though, just spread the word about LearnEnglish!
Best wishes,
Adam
