I wanna talk about my life in UK. I went to study in the UK a few years ago. The most exciting experience is that I went to a host family for my Christmas holiday in December. I went there alone…on a train, it took me one or two hours to get there, to York and then I stayed there for one week. This was the first time that I spent time with a UK family which I learnt a lot from them. They treat me like a family member, they took me out to eat, to play and to see all the different interesting culture of their region. On Christmas Day, they even bought me some presents to celebrate the Christmas.
When I went back to Oxford, which was the place that I stayed for that year, I had a chance to teach in a Chinese school every Sunday. The kids are about 14 years old and I taught them Chinese. They were all very cute but they all speak (spoke) in English. I spent lots of time to encourage them to speak in Cantonese.
During my study (studies) in the UK, I lived with few other students from different countries. They are very nice and we use to cook on our own just like a big family. Every day we will go to…every day we went to supermarkets to buy food and drinks and desserts. We cooked every day…I was not a good cook, normally I just put everything into oven. And I’ve tried to bake a cake before but failed and they all laughed at me. And every time when I bake a cake, they never taste it. We share a flat together - we share kitchen, bathrooms but we do have our own sink and bedroom. The life in the UK is quite relaxing besides study because you can explore more and do different activities at school or even some other extracurricular activities.
After I come back (to) Hong Kong, I still keep in touch with all my friends in the UK, from different countries like Italy, Malaysia, Japan, UK and other countries. Sometimes we even send email(s) to each other, sometimes they may come to Hong Kong to visit and we will meet each other again.
I really enjoy the time in the UK, I hope you will also have the chance to explore more in other different countries in the future.

I wanna ask about the difference between maybe and may be , and how can I use them ?

Hello KingZIZO!
Maybe is an adverb which usually goes at the beginning of a sentence, and needs a subject and a verb after it. It means possible, not impossible.
Maybe it will rain tomorrow.
May be is a verb form (may (modal) + be) and needs a subject. Like Maybe, it means possible.
It may be true.
You can read about may and the other modal verbs in our grammar section. But don't worry - the meanings can be quite similar, and native speakers sometimes get them mixed up when they are writing!

Hello.
1) I have never studied abroad, as I have been studying English in Moscow, but if I had studied English in the UK, it would have been easier for me to do it.
2) If I studied abroad, I would choose without a doubt a host family because there would be more language practice.
3) In order to overcome culture shock in a foreign country, you have to prepare yourself for living there beforehand, learn its culture.

Hello xxx1360!
Well, like a lot of questions about English, it's a hard question to answer without examples!
If you look in our dictionary, you'll see That's it is used to say something is completed:
Well, that's it, we've finished - we can go home now.
or that you are doing something the right way:
You switch the computer on at the back. That's it.
That's all is used to mean only that, nothing more. We often use it at the end of statements to show that we don't mean anything further than that.
A: Did you finish the washing up?
B: That's it! I'm tired of you saying I'm lazy!
A: What? That's not what I meant! I just wanted to know if the washing up is finished, that's all!
I hope that helps - but I shouldn't worry too much about it; it's not a very important use of That!

Hi,everone.I think that it's difficult to live abroad because at first you can't understand native people. If you want to buy something, you have to use your hands to show what you want.
(Excuse me for my mistake in my comment.i'm just a beginner).
I’ve never studied abroad, but I have some idea about different between studying abroad and studying in our home country. The first, it’s language. Maybe you learnt language so well in your country, but then you go abroad, you’ll live in a real peculiar environment where most of people doesn’t talk by your native language. This is difficult for you to communicate with everyone, acquire knowledge and research documents. The second, it’s education, it’s not only the contents of the study but also the subjects, schedule. Example about schedule, you could have 5 minutes to rest between 2 subjects, but it’s not in the US. The third, it’s culture and food, you can feel the taste of some foods is so bad at the first time, at the second time or always. And you must change yourself, your action to suit that culture. But you know, if you’re in a bad situation, you still can find lucky things. So let’s discover surprising things in that differential.
And I think to resolve the difficult result of the above differential, I’ll choose to live with a host family. Because, in my opinion, they can help us understand and integrate quickly into new culture. Besides, they make us feel as we live in a complete family, with mother, father…
But with culture shock issues, I’m not sure. I think we need learning about new culture before we go to study abroad, swap culture with everybody and attend more activities, especially extracurricular activities.
P/s: If you see any mistake, let me know. Thanks :)
