Hello Chiara,
I am Cathy, 39 years old and I live in The Netherlands. I am a member of this group since yesterday. I would love to improve my writing English skill too, so it would be nice if we can have a English chit chat together, don't you think so?
Regards,
Cathy

Hello Una Shi!
We're happy that you want to talk to other learners on the website, but please remember that our house rules ask you not to share your own e-mail or ask for personal information from others. This is to protect all our users! We're looking at ways to make it easier for learners to talk to each other, but for now, why not talk to Chiara here? Other learners can join in, too!

Hello Chiara!
Welcome to LearnEnglish! If you have a look through the comments to this page, you'll find plenty of tips and advice to work on your writing and speaking. Have a look at this reply for help with speaking, and Adam's reply to Jay, just below.
Please remember, however, that our house rules ask you not to share or ask for personal information – and this includes Skype details. This is to protect all our users! We're looking at ways to make it easier for learners to talk to each other, but for now, why not practice your English by leaving messages for other learners in the comments section of each page?

Thank you so much for your kind reply.
I've read comments that you recommended to me and I've founded them very useful, like all the other practice material of this web site. I hope you don't mind if I ask you another question, I can't find the answer anywhere. As we all know, there are some differences between American and British English, so my question is: I have to choose one of them before taking my IELTS test? I mean: if I write something, for instance, in American English, will the IELTS teacher consider it as a mistake?
Regards,
C.

Hello chiarachi!
I'm glad you found the comments useful! In answer to your question, I shouldn't worry about it. Both American and British English are acceptable, and the listening exam itself will use a range of accents. You certainly do not have to say "I will be doing this exam in American English"!

Hello manii!
That's a very big question! Have a look around our site and read some of the comments from learners to get some good ideas and find practice material for the test. You can also find some tips on the British Council IELTS page. You might like to think about taking classes, too – there's a lot to learn for the exam, and a good school will advise you on what you need to work on before the exam. Don't forget that general English practice will also help you – it doesn't have to be IELTS specific! Our Business and Work section and Magazine section both have lots of articles and listenings that will help your IELTS performance.
Good luck!
