Task 4

Section 4 - Our Person in...

Section 4 is based on 'Our Person in...'. It helps you to listen to other people speaking for a little longer than they speak in a conversation, like a radio or television news report. When people prepare written reports, they are often a little more formal, and use more complex words and structures.

You listened to Mike talking about Central Park in New York.
Think about a place in your city that you want to tell people about. It might be a park or a famous square – somewhere you like or somewhere people go to relax.

Suggestion: Download the Support Pack and read the notes to help you to think of things to say, and the best order to say them. Make your own notes and then join these together to make a paragraph in the comments section below.

Task 5

Section 5 - Your turn

Section 5 is based on 'Your Turn'. It helps you to listen and understand people giving their opinions.

In Your Turn you heard 5 people answer this question: ‘Is it a good idea for celebrities to do work for charity?’
What do you think?

Suggestion: Download the Support Pack and look at the phrases that the people use. Sometimes they don't use complete sentences. Write down notes and then say what you think.

Which ones do you agree with? Write down your opinion – Is it a good idea for celebrities to do work for charity? You can send us your text if you want. Do this in the comments section below.

Section 6 - Carolina

Section 6 follows Carolina – a girl who has come to the United Kingdom (UK) to live, study, and to have fun exploring a different country and culture. Listening to this can help you if you find yourself in a similar situation. You will see that there is often more than one way of saying the same thing in English.

  • Listen to the joke.

I would like to meet Scarlett Johansson, an American actress. She has a lot of movies such as The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America and so on. My favorite film of her is Lucy. Besides movies,She actively participates in the U.S. election and also loves charity like the “Hero in Heels” project of Wish Upon A Hero Foundation. I admire her because she do the things that I can not do. I want to ask her what is the true amusement circle.

As far as I am concerned, this is a good thing that celebrities use their power to help people and do some charity. Celebrities are likely to attract more and more people to do charity. Then more people who need help can be saved. However, we can not totally believe all celebrities. They may want to use the charity to make a profit.

I will introduce the people’s park of the city which I live in. My city is in the south of China. Because of the tropical climate the trees are always green all the year so we can see green trees in every covers at the park. A great number of trees also bring us clear air and keep out the hot sun. Thanks to that, people like to take a walk or have a party with family and friends at the park after finishing their work. At night, there are so many people enjoy their free time such as doing some sports at the park to relax themselves.

I'd like to meet Jackie Chan who is a famous Chinese actor. He learned martial arts from a young age so that he can do well in martial arts movies. He worked so hard and he never used substitutes in his movies. In 1995, his movie enter the Hollywood and help him to be on the cover of Time. Not only he do well in his works, but also make many contributions to charity. If I can meet him in the furture, I am looking forward to shaking hands with him.

He played Mr.Bean extremely wonderful. i was completely attracted to him. He has an unique sense of humor so that i was always attracted. In 2012, he had been invited to participate in Olympics opening ceremony. when i saw him on TV, i was very excited. so i really want to meet him in the future!

I think it's a good idea for celebrities to work for charity. First, celebrities have good economic strength and can help the poor more. Second, celebrities have greater influence and can call on more people to join charities.

Xiamen's Gulangyu Islet is a very beautiful place, there are many famous tourist attractions on the island, such as riguangyan, museum etc.. There are a lot of well decorated shops, very interesting. When I travelled in a postcard shop, I wrote a postcard to someone who is important to me .In a conclusion,I really like the romantic atmosphere there.

I would like to meet Louis Koo. He is a famous Chinese actor and singer. He starred in many classic movies, such as the Condor Heroes, the overheard 3, and so on. I love the most of the film is 2 SPL story, because it is very touching,it tells the story of a father's love for his daughter. I adire him because he donated money to many poor areas and helped a lot of people in need. If I can meet him, I'd like to ask him how he defines an actor's worth.

I think it is a good thing. Celebrities can apply their influence to appeal people to engage in charity and help the poor or other poeple who are in plight. No matter what is the original purpose of the celebrities, they have contributions to the harmony of our society.

I would like to talk about the beach of the city. The beach is in the south of the city. Tens of thousands of people go there to swim, play beach volleyball or just for sightseeing and relax. Perhaps nobody knows exactly when the beach comes into being, it began to be developed as a scenic spot since 2011. I really enjoy this beach because of its fresh air and beautiful and relaxing scenery.
