Task 4

Section 4 - Your turn

Section 4 is based on 'Your Turn'. It helps you to listen and understand people giving their opinions.

Suggestion: Download the Support Pack and look at the phrases that the people use. Sometimes they don't use complete sentences. Write down notes and then say what you think.

In 'Your Turn' this time the question was "What talent would you like to have?”
What about you? What talent would you like to have? Would you like to be able to sing or dance or tell great jokes? Do you have the same wish as any of the people said in the podcast?

We'd like you to tell us your opinion. Add your paragraph to the "Your turn" comments on the website.

For some useful language, download the Support Pack.

Practice materials - Exercise 1

Look at some parts of Carolina and her friends‟ conversations in the car park.

Task 6

Section 6 - Joke

Section 6 is a joke. A joke is normally a funny story you hear and tell someone else. But you can also describe funny things that happen to you. The most important thing is to watch your friends to see if they are enjoying the story or not – then you can make it longer or shorter.

Suggestion: We suggest you do this:

  • Listen to the joke on your computer/mp3 player.
  • Do Exercise 1, in which you put the lines of the joke in order.
  • Do Exercise 2, in which you reconstruct the joke, word by word.
  • Do Exercise 3, in which you tell the joke.
  • Think of a funny story that you know. Write down the most important words in English (use a dictionary?). Then try telling the joke.

Practice materials - Exercise 1

Put the lines of the joke in the correct order.

Hello everybody
I'd like to talk about kong Fu, Kung Fu is self defense sport, it is useful for children, it enhance their stamina, building of their muscles & it also teach them how to respect their trainer or teacher which is important.
It's also important for youth as if they do it they my not suffer from illnesses related to age as pains in joints & backbone problems,
I'd like also to confirm that the main purpose of this sport is to learn people how to tolerate & respect others especially weak ones same as Judo & karate.
Thanks

I can't pass Task 6 . The lines move chaotically all the time . It's first time since I am here .

Hello Natalia,

I'm sorry about that. We seem to be having temporary technical problems with our exercises, which should be fixed soon, but let me explain a little trick for this kind of exercise – I think this will help you.

After you have moved a first item to a group, you must first click or press on the item you want to move and then (and this is the important part) you must click or press on top of the small hand at the right end of the first item's box for it to enter the group without making the first item leave.

It's a bit difficult to describe, but very easy to do once you understand it. If you need me to describe it again, please let us know.

All the best,
Kirk

I've done it , thank you . Today it was easy , as usually . Thank you one more time for this wonderful course !

If I could have talents I would choose teleportation and high IQ (coefficient of intelligence). The first talent would allow me to be everywhere I want, the second one would be very useful too. I would try to find many solutions of actual problem of humanity, but, I think the most of all I would think about space exploration. I would be able to travel everywhere, anytime and this talent would be entertainment for me, without any useful things for rest of the world. On the other hand I would have the second one, high IQ, and this talent would work for humanity, my richness and glory.

Sorry for the wrong spelling of talented
Thank you
