I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud…

'…That floats on high o'er vales and hills…' This famous poem by William Wordsworth (1770-1850) was inspired by the spring flower, the yellow or golden daffodil.

Once, I hv read this poem and I'd like to share it. The poem is :
Search for a stranger
You were not a mistake
But one the night you were born
I screamed. And later, I cried.
Alone in the darkness, no family.
or friends..... abandoned.

I held you in my arms, and right away.
It felt batural-gentle kisses falling to your face
Salty with tears, so pink and innocent.
I wondered "Will time break this connection?"
It did not.

I did not name you.
There was no time, and no point.
I whispered " I love you" and sang
Softly as the footsteps came,
Hollow and empty in the hall.

"I've changed my mind," I wanted to say.
But I was silent, and you were gone.
Prayers help, but they can't correct.
My mistake, or bring you back to me.
My heart is still breaking.

I cry without tears now.
When I see children playing
In the street or school yard.
At Christmas..... on you birthday.
So many painful anniversaries.

I buy present sometimes.
Like a small bear, In pink.
I have a room full of guilt- my heart hurts.
Twenty years after you went away.
I believe that I will give them to you someday.

I dream of you.
Ask myself if you are married yet, have children,
Are you studying hard?
I'ts time to begin the voyage
To search for the stranger I know so well.

Philip NEWMAN's picture

A Five-Minute Affair
               I met a girl today;
               Or rather our eyes did
And lingered together across a crowded bar.
And though not a word was spoken or said,
Our unthought thoughts were easily read.
               Eyes searched eyes,
               Through smoke-filled dim light,
Holding fast their gaze with a passion.
And though not a word was said or spoken,
I dared not look away lest the spell be broken.
A girl of fields and forests,
               She seemed to me,
Of dew-dropped flowers in a meadow.
And though not a sound passed from our lips,
We stared, as lovers, between two passing ships.
               Dark was her hair,
               Darker still were her eyes;
               Enthralling, entrancing, engaging.
And though her lips passed not a sound,
We spent that moment; eternally bound.
               The juke-box blare,
               The pool balls’ clunks,
Even happy, laughing voices went unnoticed.
For whilst nothing was uttered and nothing was heard,
Heart strings fluttered like fluttering birds.
               Then it was over,
For with a friends gentle prod,
She finished up her drink and was gone.
And though it was nothing, nothing at all,
I leant back empty, alone on my stool.

Hi Emma,
What sort of material would you like to upload? Do you mean English learning material that you wrote or something else?
Best wishes,

Yes,
I mean - for example - poems such like this by Wordsworth or other stories, tales or short  articles I found interesting (not written by me!).
I can't understand if it is a possible thing or not...
Thanks!

Hello Emma,
We (the LearnEnglish team) decide which materials are published on the site. That is because we have to make sure there is copyright permission to reproduce them and also that they are useful for learners. We usually add language exercises and downloadable pdf worksheets as well, so it isn't as simple as pasting in some text.
If you have a suggestion of something that would make a good LearnEnglish article, you can put it in the comments and we might use it. You can also paste non-copyrighted articles, poems etc. (like Wordsworth) into the comments if you think other users would find them useful.
Regards,
Adam

i like the poem for its quite romantic..it tries to show that the writer doesn't really like to be alone..as in the first 2 lines...
the writer shows the beauty of someone who is in love and those people that love peace...where he talked about daffodils and all the natures.
