Carmen visits the National Motor Museum and talks to an expert about the rise and decline of the Classic British car.

Do the Preparation task first. Then watch the video. Next go to Task and do the activity. If you need help, you can read the Transcript at any time.

I'm not a motor car enthusiast but this museum gave me the idea to go there just to widen the horizons. I don't know the proper way to get in this place but I'll find it out! It might be really exciting driving some of this cars and I hope to do in my all life.

When I was young I used to watch Formula 1 on TV with my father, so I know a little bit about cars models but that is not my thing now, it was just a way to share a hobby with my father.
Now, It's just a way of transportation to me. I like watching beautiful cars on the road though, but I find them too expensive. Moreover, they bring too much pollution.

I don't know much things about cars. But this video learnt me somethings about Classic British Cars.

Hello, The LearnEnglish Team! I guess there should be an apostrophe after a word "owners" in the following sentence: "Motor enthusiasts can belong to owners clubs, or take part in motor shows, like the Super Car event here at Beaulieu." (Transcript)
Best regards,

Hello Dima,

It does look like there should be an apostrophe here, to show that the clubs belong to the owners. However, the meaning here is rather different. The word owners here is not a possessive but an adjective, showing not possession but rather describing the kind of club. You can see the same use in this government document.

Hello, Peter. I totally agree with you and at first I thought It was correct too but according to the video it must be " owners' " (2:53), because it's a transcript and not a retelling, although there could be a mistake in the video, of course.
Thank you for useful information and qualifying support!
Best regards,

Thank you you very much indeed.

sorry ,i can't play all of vedios ....i need help,,,

Hello jessica lili,

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with the video. Is this an issue on other pages on the site, or just this one? If you're having problems with all the videos then it is probably a compatibility issue, especially if you are using a mobile device such as a phone or tablet. Please try accessing the site on a different device, such as a laptop or desktop computer, to see if this solves the problem.

Best wishes,

Hello Teachers ,

Here , where Carmen says ' The motor industry played a central part in Britain's industrial past ' , is it possible saying the same thing using 'role ' instead of ' part ' ?

Thank you '

Best regards ,
