British Council on iTunes U lets you download lots of British Council digital audio and video resources through the iTunes Store.

On our British Council iTunes U site you’ll find over 150 pieces of digital audio and video to help you learn – and all completely free and easy to download.

Quick Start

  1. Go to www.apple.com/itunes/ and download iTunes for either Macintosh or Windows.
  2. Double click on the downloaded Installer file and follow the instructions provided.
  3. Restart your computer and launch iTunes.
  4. Select 'iTunes U' on the top navigation menu. Once on the iTunes U store select 'Beyond Campus' on the top right navigation, once the results display click on British Council.

FAQ

Will I have to pay to access British Council on iTunes U?
No. You may freely listen and watch all of the content from British Council on iTunes U.

How do I access the British Council on iTunes U?
First, make sure you have the most current version of iTunes installed on your Mac or PC computer. To download the application, visit to http://www.apple.com/itunes. Also make sure that you are running the most current update of your system software.

Next, launch the iTunes application and click on “iTunes Store” on the top menu. Select "Beyond Campus" in the top right navigation area, and click on “British Council” on the resulting page. Alternatively, you can go directly to our iTunes U page via the "British Council on iTunes U" link.

Is the British Council content part of the iTunes Music Store?
Yes! You may now search for and access British Council content directly on the iTunes Store. Look for British Council in the “iTunes U - Beyond Campus” section.

Is the British Council on iTunes content under copyright protection?
While we do not implement any digital rights management (DRM) for British Council materials on our iTunes content, we do use British Council copyright releases to protect each piece of content on the site.

What are podcasts?
"Podcasting" refers to a push-pull delivery technology (namely RSS feeds) for downloading digital media files. You may subscribe to any of our collections by clicking on the "Subscribe Free" button on the collection page. You may also copy the subscription link and paste that URL into your favorite feed aggregator.

Where in iTunes is the content I downloaded from the British Council on iTunes U?
Currently, users may access British Council content in the iTunes Store via direct download and progressive download previews. Content downloaded from the British Council on iTunes U appears in a smart playlist called "British Council" in the playlists section of the iTunes application.

Do I have to use iTunes and Apple products to have access?
Currently, you must use the iTunes application to download content. Apple offers a free Windows version of iTunes at http://www.apple.com/itunes. For those who use another operating system such as Linux or wish to avoid iTunes altogether, you may visit our RSS feeds page.

You do not need a Macintosh, iTunes, or an iPod to play the audio files. All you will need is a player capable of playing .mp3 .mp4 files.
