-What "thought so " mean ? it's polite ?

Hello U-sema!

Thanks for your kind words. I'm glad you find the site useful! In answer to your question, neither of the expressions are formal and polite, but they are not very rude either - you can use them in most conversations.

If you use our dictionary box on the right of the page, you'll see that 'Go ahead' means give someone permission to do something.

'Thought so' means that you already have an idea of what someone tells you. In the transcript Sarah says she is from Shanghai. Johnny says 'Thought so' because he already guessed she was from Shanghai.

Hope that helps!

Hi! I'm a newcomer here. I've started to study you soap audio and I really love it. Can you explain for me, in series 1 episode 1  Jonny uses: "I'm supposed to be meeting someone"  not I'm supposed to meet someone. Are they  different?
Thanks a lot.

Hello daothoa!

That's a good question. They are actually quite similar, and both make sense. However, if you look at our page on the present continuous, you'll see we use be +v-ing to talk about plans - by using be meeting, Johnny is emphasising that it is a plan.

Hope that helps!

When I visited British council website in the first time I was listening to the subjects and read quickly and does not feel better in English and when I tried today to listen to the subject and read it carefully I was amazed that I was able to solve all the Instructions easily.
It's really useful website and I would recommend all those who want to learn the British English language that follows your website.
By the way, I need to know how to better my skills to speak British accent?

Hello Essam,
That's great news! It's a great feeling when you realise that your English is improving.
As for your accent, it's very hard to change an accent and not necessary for most people. We tend to advise learners to focus on speaking so that they can be easily understood, rather than worrying about the accent they have, unless there is a special reason.
Best wishes,
Adam
