While you listen
While you listen
Elementary Podcasts are suitable for learners with different levels of English. Here are some ways to make them easier (if you have a lower level of English) or more difficult (if you have a higher level of English). You can choose one or two of these suggestions - you don't have to do all of them!
Making it easier
- Read all the exercises before you listen to the podcast.
- Look up the words in the exercises that you don't know in a dictionary.
- Play the podcast as many times as you need.
- Play each part of the podcast separately.
- Read the transcript after you have listened to the podcast.
Making it harder
- Listen to the podcast before you read the exercises.
- Only play the podcast once before answering the questions.
- Play the whole podcast without a break.
- Don't read the transcript.
Now, listen to the podcast and do the exercises on the following tabs.
1
Select all the sentences that are true, according to the podcast.
2
Can you remember who said what in the podcast?
3
Put the words in order to make sentences from the podcast.
4
Match the words to the definitions.
5
Choose the right word to fill the gap.
6
Are these pairs of words homophones? Say them to yourself. Do they sound the same or different? (Note that this exercise is designed to work with most English accents - some words may sound different in other accents.)
7
When do we make these noises in English? Match the noises with their meanings.
8
Put the verbs in the spaces.

Internet helped me to make friends with several absolutely worthy people. A virtual friendship is far more subtle and vulnerable than a real friendship. If we don't cherish it constantly, we can easy lose our distant friends. I am a lucky person that could find the most intelligent, energetic, and determined people on Earth. I have never met them but I am sure that I know all of them quite well. All of them are individual and have their own inherent features. They are from different countries and were brought up according to traditions and customs of their own native countries. However, in general, all the people in the world have similar desires, aspirations and needs. All of us, wherever we live need warmth, attention, and respect. I feel elated that I have so many virtual and real friends whom I can always count on. I keep my fingers crossed hoping that I can keep all my friends because I feel at-ease with them.
All the best.
thanks. i like to hear others' opinion in order to expand my thought
Hello Adam and Rob
I limit facebook friendship to only the people I know in the real life, because there is personal information to share with them, and I think it's better to not share those information with strangers.

I have some online friends but not all of them I know in real life. Actually, I don`t like online friendship so much, because I think it`s a bit superficial. Like Adam, I`m not on Facebook, and it`s a bit hard to keep in touch with some people I want to keep in touch with.
Hi
One of the effect of facebook since 3 or 4 years ago in Iran, has been organizing meeting and ceremonies that are illegal in viewpoint of government. For example on last year on summer, invitation had been sent to Iranian fecebook members include me to take part in "water fun game". After the ceremony police arrested several of them who had been taken part. Do you amazed?! Everything are very difficult to explain here, you must see yourself. Here is the document on Guardian News: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/aug/04/water-fight-pistols-iran-arr...
Another example that is usual now in Arabian countries, is arranging meeting of protesters, that played very important role and very effective at 3 years ago in Iran.
But nowadays Iranian internet become very slow and while the days pass it becomes slower, exactly unlike most other countries. sometimes it isn't work for several hours. In addition, it could be firmly said that all of the sites have been blocked include Facebook, all foreign news sites and others.
It's very sad essay, Morteza.
It's seems a situation in Iran is getting tense. Exacerbation threatens not only Iran, but nearest countries as well.. We will pray for you and your country.
There are nice people in every parts of the world.
