Man: Oh no!
Woman: What is it?
Man: 'Josh and Henrietta would like to have the pleasure of your company at a drinks party next Saturday evening ...'
Woman: Oh no, Josh and Henrietta ... they're not that couple who ...?
Man: Yeah, exactly! And it gets worse!
Woman: How?
Man: 'Formal dress'.
Woman: Argh ... It means you've got to wear a suit.
Man: At the bottom it says 'RSVP'. What does it mean?
Woman: You've got to reply.
Man: But I don't want to go, so what can I say?
Woman: Tell them you've got a dentist's appointment.
Man: Josh is my dentist!
Woman: Tell them it's your grandmother's 100th birthday party.
Man: But they know my granny died ages ago.
Woman: Tell them your dog's sick and you've got to take him to see the vet.
Man: It's no use. I'm just going to have to tell them the truth.
Woman: The truth? 'I'm not coming to your birthday party because I think you're boring and stupid?'
Man: Maybe not, then.
Woman: Tell them this: 'I'm unable to attend because I have a prior engagement.'
Man: 'Prior engagement'?! And … they won't be offended?
Woman: Absolutely not.
Man: Perfect!

Hi. This is great. But is there a way to download the video so I can watch this when I am not online?
Hello Gaelle12,
I'm afraid that our videos are not available for download. Anything that is available for download on our site is clearly marked as such.
Sorry!

Hi, I can't watch this video. How do you think what it is the reason? Thank you
Hi Akkumis,
The video appears to be working correctly so I suspect the problem might be at your end. Could you tell us what device you are using to access the site? Many of our materials require Flash compatibility, which is a problem for some mobile devices such as iPhones and iPads. Do the other videos on LearnEnglish work for you, or do you have problems with all of them? If you cannot see the video, what do you see in the space where it should be?
Please let us know and we'll try to help you to find a solution.
Best wishes,
Peter

Thank you for answering me. In fact I am using simple laptop, not ipad or iphone. I have problems with all videos. I see only images in the space where videos should be
Thank you in adnvance
Akkumis
Hello Akkumis,
The first thing to check is whether you have Flash installed on your laptop. To do this, go to this page, which will tell you which version, if any, you have, and give you a link to download the latest version if necessary.
If that does not solve your problem then it may be an issue related to where you live. Users in some countries have problems accessing our videos, but we are creating alternatives for them. Try going to this page and, if the video does not work, clicking on the 'Can't see video? Click here!' link just under the main video window. If that video works, then the problem is related to where you live and you will only be able to access videos which have the 'Can't see video? Click here!' link, such as Word on the Street.
If neither of these solutions helps then I suspect the problem will be related to your own configuration. Perhaps your security settings, or those of your internet provider, are blocking access for some reason. This, however, you will have to check yourself as I cannot help you with your local setting. You might try using a different computer to see if this is the issue.
I hope one of those suggestions helps you to gain access to the videos.
Best wishes,
Peter

how can i download the videos ?
Hello tania akter,
I'm afraid these videos are not available for download. Most of the videos on LearnEnglish are under copyright, and therefore cannot be downloaded.
If you'd like some downloadable audio and print content, I'd recommend the Elementary Podcasts and Big City Small World.

Oh I wanna speak like this but i unable to do so . How to get it ?????
Hi asimdba,
Practise, practise, practise. There is really no substitute for practise. Even if you can't practise with another person, you can practise on your own at home. Study this transcript and memorise the parts of it that you find useful. Then practise saying the words to yourself out loud. Compare your pronunciation with the speaker, and try to correct yourself. Then practise it until you can say it more easily.
It's unusual for someone to not have an accent when they learn another language later in life, and really there's no reason to get rid of your accent. As long as other people can understand you, it's fine!
Best wishes,
Kirk
