Hello lingskie,

Both are correct. People who adhere to traditional grammars prefer 'were' to 'was', so if you're writing or speaking to people like that, then I'd recommend 'were'. But many people just say 'was' in this case and nowadays it is considered correct by most.

Thank you so much sir.

Hello everyone,
In my case I prefer to study in the library, Most of the times I have to study in my room with my laptop, but, when I am studying with my laptop, sometimes I begin opening other pages such as facebook, youtube and pages like that, so, I realized that I get distracted very easily. Nothing compares with the most suitable place for students, THE LIBRARY.
Regards to all.

Thank you very much for the Episode 14, it was amazing. I am going to have a test on Monday about conditionals, so, it was very helpful for me.

Hi all
I am from Nepal. I am not that much good at English. My grammar might be ok but I feel nervous when I speak or talk English with other. Every time when I speak English I always think whether I had make any mistakes. what can I do.. ? Please suggest me...

Arpan Shrestha.

Hello again Arpan,

It sounds as if Butwal is too far from our British Council centre in Kathmandu, but if you ever spent some time in the capital, I'm sure a class there could be really useful for you.

But there's still a lot you can do where you live. I'd recommend you continue using Elementary Podcasts. First, listen to the podcast a couple of times. Then you could listen to it again using the transcript to help you understand it. Do the exercises and then print out the transcript. Underline words and phrases that you think would be useful to learn and to use in your speaking. Then practise pronouncing them until it feels more natural and you can say them quickly. Then try using those words and phrases in your speaking. If you can't find anyone to speak to in English, you can still speak to yourself! It may seem strange, but it does work.

Good luck!

All the best,
The LearnEnglish Team

I like study at home now. Because, I work at a company and improve my English. If I study at university, I might be prefer study at library. I usually study in the morning without any music. It depends of subject. Now, my subject is English listening, so music disturbing for me maybe .

Hello, This is my first time in the comments. I from Brazil and I live in Natal city, Rio Grande do Norte State, there I'm doctoral student in Systematic and Evolution. I burned in Santa Rita do Sapucai city, Minas Gerais State.
Well, I prefer to study at home alone! Depends on the subject I study with music or not.
Thanks all you from British Council, helped me very much to improve my English!

Hello admin i am a new leaner please guide me how to start to improving my English.
Thank for your guidelines.

Hello Mehdi,

We're glad you found us – welcome! I'd suggest you read our House Rules and our Help page to get started. It's also a good idea to browse the site a bit using the menu at the top. Whenever you find something interesting start working on it! If you still don't know where to begin after looking around, I'd suggest Elementary Podcasts Series 4.

I prefere to study in the library, when I am home I always find something to do just to not study.
But even in the library I always listen to music while studying and prefere to study in the morning instead of night
