Shakespeare Scene 1

Stephen's got a job as an actor, and he and Ashlie go to the Globe Theatre in London to pick up his costume – and to find out about England's most famous writer, William Shakespeare.

Do the Preparation task first. Then watch the video. Next go to Task and do the activity. If you need help, you can read the Transcript at any time.

Yes, I've gone to the theatre a lot of times.
Yes, I've been in a play two or three times and I wore costumes.

Hi guys.Could someone explain me is there any difference between these constructions ''Is this really what the actors would have worn?'' and ''Is this really what the actors would wear?''

Hello anton81,

'would have worn' is a conditional perfect form whereas 'would wear' is a simple conditional form. The first one refers to a past hypothetical situation – for example, to what actors might have worn during Shakespeare's time – whereas the second one refers to a present or future hypothetical situation – for example, to what actors wear nowadays.

Hii dear
I have a problem with watching videos

Hello asim khider,

I'd recommend you install the latest version of the Adobe Flash Player on your device. This usually solves video problems, but if not, you could also try using a different browser (e.g. Chrome, Firefox or Internet Explorer/Edge). If that doesn't work, please let us know what browser version and operating system you're using.

Hi, I can't see the preparation task...thanks!

Hello Beatriz,

There is no exercise under Preparation for Word on the Street – it's just those questions that are designed to help prepare you for viewing the video.
