I am a Chinese, and I didn't catch what the chicken joke means, maybe there are some different culture between our countries, can anybody tell me what's the joke means?

Hello Leason,

In English, we say that a chicken says 'bock, bock' or 'cluck, cluck' and that a frog says 'ribbet'. In the joke, the chicken says a word that sounds similar (book) and the frog says a phrase that sounds similar (read it). The joke is supposed to be funny (I say 'supposed to be' because I agree with Tess that it's a bad joke) because it suggests that what these animals say have meanings in English!

All the best,

'I'm intending to finish my English homework tonight."

Hello wedyan,

There are no errors in that sentence. Whether or not it is appropriate or makes sense will depend on the context, of course.

The LearnEnglish Team

ok,thank you

It's a good idea of course! because the celebrities have so much money and in the world there's a lot of poor people! This is the inequality, some people have much and another people don't have nothing! The artists must to help them... They can stop the poverty just a little... I think. The poverty is a big problem in the world! :/

In my opinion, taking advantage from an artist's popularity to influence people is not a bad idea. Many people have forgotten humanity in many aspects. So I think using the artist to do charity is a good strategy, since his/her fans will admire what the artist does and they will follow him

I don't think so, since giving money to people just because thier condition is not helping them actually, poor people will just waste it and will end up as before the got the money. So instead of just throw some money to them celebrities should also complement that with some sorf of educational programs to help them scape their situation.

I'd like to meet Tom Payne. He's a British film actor who played a main role in film, called The Physician. He had a character of Rob Cole, a simple boy from England at the middle ages. Here is told about how he had to work his long way up through hard work and difficults to become a healer. I think he played very well, he looked very natural in the film. I guess there is not enough only a good playing to play this role but a lot more things is need to know. I mean, you need to know history well, read some special books of those time and stuff to prepare for this role. My question for him is what he had to do to prepare for his role?
Please The LearnEnglish Team tell me whether I wrote my thoughts correctly.
Which mistakes I did?

I watched that film, it was a nice one. As you know the film went to Avicenna's story, a Persian scientists. and I really enjoyed Rob Cole character.
