Even if you are asked what seems like a yes–no question, you are expected to say more.

حتى لو تم سؤالك ما يبدو وكأنه سؤال إجابته بنعم أو لا فإنه متوقع منك أن تقول المزيد.

The IELTS interview gives you roughly 10 to 15 minutes of time to display your English speaking skills to the examiner. If you give one-word or very short answers to questions you are not giving the examiner much with which to assess you.

Even if you are asked what seems like a yes–no question you are expected to say more than a simple “yes" or “no”. You should try to develop what you say by, for example, giving reasons, opinions or describing something in more detail.

In the video clip Joao is asked to tell the examiner something he likes about his job. He answers by saying “the people”, which shows that he has understood the question, but it doesn’t show off any of his English skills. What he needs to do, which eventually he does with some prompting from the examiner, is to develop his answer and describe in more detail why he likes the people he works with.

A good tip for candidates is to look for signals from the examiner. Often you can see from the examiner’s facial expression or manner if you have said enough or not.

ielts hardest test i ever took i can't pass listening test

Hello everybody, I am here a new student to learn, I want to help me
thanks.

Hi, I have the app "Big City Small World" in my cellphone and I love it very much. It's been working well until two days ago. I don't know why it alway shows "Content not found. Please connect to the internet" while my internet is on. The other app "Podcasts" in my phone also has the same problem. I was thinking of uninstalling it first and installing it back, but I found that these two apps are not on my Android Play Store app list anymore!  I'd like to know if they are removed from the app list, or how this problem can be fixed. Many thanks:)

Hello Komy!

I'm not sure what the problem is either! However, could you repost your problem on the right pages of our apps section? That way, our tech team will be able to give you direct help.

Hello YGKMURTHY!

Welcome to LearnEnglish! I'm sorry to hear you don't quite follow this video - he talks quite quickly. However, we have lots of other material on LearnEnglish. Why not try our Elementary Podcasts first? These are short radio shows about different topics. To help your listening, vocabulary and grammar, you can listen to them, read the transcripts, and do the exercises. You can talk to other learners in the comments, too. There is lots of other material in our Listen and Watch section as well. If you want to work on grammar, take a look at our grammar section.

Don't forget that we also have a search box. Put a topic you're interested in into the box – like 'meeting people' or 'the present simple' - and you'll get a list of pages about that topic.

We have a lot of different levels on the site, so don't worry if something is too hard – find something easier, and come back to it later. Just try to look at something every day!

Hope that helps,
