Beans on Toast (serves one)

Preparation time: seconds

Cooking Time: 5-8 minutes

Two slices of bread (any type)

Small can baked beans in tomato sauce

  • Put the bread in the toaster or under the grill.
  • Open can of beans and empty into a pan.
  • Heat on low temperature for about 5-8 minutes, stirring regularly.
  • Butter toast and put slices on plate.
  • Pour beans on top of toast. Season to taste - lots of pepper is good.

Spice it up

Spread hummus on the toast before you put the beans on.

Add some grated cheese and jalapeno peppers - the cheese melts and makes it gooey while the peppers give it a bit of a kick.

Add half a teaspoon of curry powder to the beans.

Stir in some Marmite during the heating phase - giving the beans an oomph. About half a teaspoon per full-size can of beans should do the trick. Or add some Worcestershire sauce, though the effect is not so pronounced.

Best for eating

On a tray in front of the telly watching your favourite television programme with a mug of tea.

I have never tried beans on toast but I'd like to. I'd tried Dom's recipe because it's much more healthy than Tom's.But I can't understand why Dom thinks beans are not very healthy.Of course I do agree Tom's recipe is crap!

Well, I haven't tried this food before, but I do believe that it could be a brand new experienment for me because it is different from the cuisine in my country - Viet Nam. I hope I would have a chance to eat beans on toast!

I have found it interesting. Because in my country beans are never eaten for breakfast, they are always cooked as main dish. I know food habits are cultural. Anyway , maybe I am a little prejudiced person, I will never try it in this way.

No, I've never tried beans on toast before, but I think I'll try it today. I guess it'll be taste. I prefer Tom's recipe because I love tomato ketchup but don't love too spicy food and don't usually use pepper in my dishes.

I really couldn't follow who's who. Also, it was hard to watch the video and read the questions at the same time. I wish it solely relied on reading.

I have never tried beans on toast and i woldn't like to try, cause I guess it doesn't combine.

I did not yet try beans on the toast, but I think it's quite delicious and healthy except for those people who had arthritis, but for me, I will surely try this one, especially Dom's recipe.
