Ashlie and Stephen do some shopping in Paris - and improve their French!

Task 1

Task 2

Task 3

We can use expressions with '-ing' to explain how we do things. For example, the picture seller says:

  • I always pick up new words talking to tourists.

The expression 'talking to tourists' explains how she learns new words.

Hello Brenoabarbosa

You might want to look for listening materials at the A2 or B1 levels if you found this difficult. You can find these materials on our Find out your English level page -- see part 2 (below the test). In any case, don't give up! Listening is a skill that most people need time and lots of practice to improve.

Also, I wanted to tell you to check our Listening section. In the next few weeks we will be publishing more than 50 new pages there. I'm sure you will be able to use them to improve your listening skills!

The most important thing when you study other language is do not be lazy and try to think every time in this language.

Hi Kirk,

got it!

tks a lot for your kind support and congratulation for your very good job in helping us to learn or improve our English.

Guido

Hi,
in the scene 2 the expression " I'm almost done" is used.
Is it correct to use the form " I've almost done?

Tks

Hello mancini2,

'I'm done' means 'I've finished doing/using it'. You could say 'I've almost finished' instead (and it would mean the same thing), and people would certainly understand you if you said 'I've almost done', but I doubt you'd hear a native speaker say it that way. It's great that you're curious about this. I'd encourage you to learn and practise 'I'm done', though, as it is extremely commonly used and very useful!

I'm done.

All the best,
Kirk

I think you must practice everyday, enjoy practicing, travel overseas if you can or meet people from foreign countries. And most of all, be patient. I've been learning English for 4 years and I'm not a good English speaker yet.

you're right. you're from France. So, you have a lot of chances to practice English, easy to travel overseas. I have started learning English when i'm at secondary school. Now, i'm in pre-intermediate. I would like to have many friends in the world to improve English, cultures...Nice day, mate, Best regards.

English is very useful languaje and dificult to learn, overall the pronunciation. One word could mean diferent thing if we do not use the correct phonetic. In opossite, Spanish is simple to pronounce but the grammar is complicate.

You must write down the words and speak with a native speaker if you can
No, I haven't heard
