Do the Preparation task first. Then listen to the audio. Next go to each Task and do the activity. If you need help, you can read the transcript at any time.

Hello mnabin3,

Have you tried listening to it a couple of times while reading the Transcript? I'd suggest listening and reading simultaneously a couple of times (or more if need be), and then later listening without the transcript.

I am still in disagreement about GM Food, because, I know that you can find vaccine or vitamins into banana or strawberry or melon and you could avoid the injections, but at the same time we are destroying the ecosystem , I think there´s no balance yet between our habitat and science

Hello,
I'm new here and I don't have an idea about how to go about here. I'm ok with english and I can understand pretty well. My problem is that I have "mother tongue influence" when speaking. How do I get rid of it?

Hello Binsi,

Welcome to the site! There is no set order to the pages, so please use the site as you best see fit. I'd encourage you to explore it a bit so that you can get an idea of what's available.

To reduce the influence of your mother tongue is a challenging task. You can work on this on your own by paying close attention to how sentences are composed in English and comparing them to how you might say them yourself. For example, you could read an article in the Magazine - choose one that interests you - several times and then, without looking at it, explain it in writing in your own words. Once you've finished, compare the sentences you've used with those in the original text. I expect that you will find some differences, and that some of them might come from the influence of your mother tongue. Make a note of these different phrasings and review them from time to time.

You should also expose yourself to as much English as possible by reading and listening to a wide variety of texts - take note of expressions that surprise you. Finally, a teacher who knows both your mother tongue and English could be a real help as well - unfortunately, we aren't able to help you with that ourselves.

Good luck!

Hi,
I am Sanjeeb,
i have a quite knowledge in english and try to speak always with my only friend but he is also like me at level . i need to speak moe and more in englsih to expolre more oppourtuinty so that i will be able to eloquent. please advice me how can i be a native speaker.

Hello nilesh,

Ideally, you should speak with other people to improve your fluency. It's great that you speak with your friend - you should continue with this - but perhaps you can find a conversation group or speak with a colleague or different friend who is also learning English. If that is not possible, you can still learn a lot on your own using Big City Small World. First, listen to the series 1 episode 1 a few times, and then listen again as you read the Transcript . Then work through the exercises that correspond to the sections you've listened to.

To work on improving your pronunciation and fluency, choose some useful phrases from what you've listened to and imitate their pronunciation - repeat those words and phrases many times. Pronounce whole phrases, not just words, because the pronunciation of words in English varies according to context. Repeat these phrases until they're relatively easy to say, and write them down in a notebook so you can refer to them later. Then try to use them in your speaking so that you can practice them and memorise them.

Good luck!
