    Shooting has a long history, with some clubs in Germany being over 500 years old. It has featured at every Olympic Games except in 1904 and 1928, with athletes from over 100 countries participating in the 2008 Games. There are 15 events on the programme, divided into three groups: rifle, pistol and shotgun. Depending on the event, athletes have to shoot while standing, kneeling or lying down. According to the story, he ran 42 kilometres to tell the people of Athens about the defeat of the Persians at the Battle of Marathon.
