I missed one. I did not know the Americans use "spilt". I always found it too proper sounding.

here are the differences. i can tell because i lived in uk for 5 years. it's not about the accent as somebody said previously, it's about the common language, the way they speak, the way i heard it: british/american: 
-bin/trash
-petrol/gas
-trousers/pants
-lift/elevator
-nappy/diaper
