Stephen: Oh, come on, Ash! We’re going to be late.
Ashlie: Stephen, I'm too tired and it's too early. I need a coffee and I need a shower.
Stephen: Come on! We're in York and we're supposed to be taking in some history, but Ashlie seems to want to stay in bed. We can stop to get breakfast on the way.
Ashlie: But I need a shower. I’ll meet you there later?
Stephen: OK. Well, you can join in this afternoon’s session. It starts at 12.
Ashlie: OK.
Stephen: I'm off. I don’t want to be late.
Ashlie: OK, I’ll see you there later.
.....
Stephen: Hi. Excuse me. I’m here for the dig.
Man: Hi. Have you done this before?
Stephen: No, it’s my first time.
Man: Okay. Well, if you want to grab a trowel, I’ll show you what you have to do.
Stephen: Okay.
Man: What we have here is an early medieval refuse pit and it's full of things like pottery and animal bone. The way we dig it is just to take a trowel and scrape away layer by layer.
Stephen: Bit slow isn't it?
Man: It is a little bit slow but there are a lot of small finds, so you have to be very careful in case you miss anything.
Stephen: Do you ever find anything? You know, like treasure?
Man: We do. It’s rare. It’s not every day but when we do, you always get a big cheer from the archaeologists.
Stephen: I’d better get started, then.
Man: Absolutely.
.....
Stephen: So you finally made it!
Ashlie: So what did I miss? What have you found so far?
Stephen: Oh well, I'm making good progress and I'm starting to really enjoy it. You know you’ve got to take it slowly - you can’t just rush in and dig things out of the ground.
Ashlie: Yeah alright, Stephen. So are these your finds? Is this your treasure?
Stephen: Oy! Stop complaining and start digging. Let's see what you can find.
.....
Stephen: Blimey, this is hard work.
Ashlie: And messy too. I am covered in mud... Oh, no!
Stephen: What?
Ashlie: Stephen, my ring! I’ve lost my ring! It must have fallen off.
Stephen: Oh, I’m sure we can find it.
Diggers: Hurray!
Comments
What a mess! Ashley lost her ring and archaeologists found it. It might be interesting to know if they gave her the ring.
In my opinion, the archeologist is not a good work. You have to dig every time for hours and hours just to find, sometimes, something not useful! Obviously, people decide to choose this job because it's really thrilling and because you could be the first to find a historical or archaeological find.
Dear Sir,
I have a couple of questions about the following two test. Would you please tell me if I am right.
Choose the correct sentence in Passive Voice.
A) Walls may be either covered with wall-paper or only plaster.
C) Walls may be either covered with wall-paper or only plastered.
In my opinion there two correct variants in this test. Because the word 'plaster' can be a noun and a verb.
2. Choose the correct word;
Which month is ... in our country May or July?
A) coldest
B) hotter
C) the hottest
I think again two answers - B) and C) are correct. But maybe B) hotter is the best. Because I think to have the C) 'hottest' as the correct answer there must be a comma after the word 'country'.
So it must be:
Which month is hotter in our country May or July? or
Which month is the hottest in our country, May or July?
Thank you for your time.
Hello Must,
What you say makes sense to me, but I'm afraid we don't provide answers for tests. It'd really be best for you to discuss these matters with your teacher.
All the best,
Kirk

The Archaeologist is the person who digs tombs, decadent cities etc, finds and takes out historical, valuable things like old coins, pots, jewelleries, staffs of royals or community. I think it's very exciting, enjoyable job and I would like to do this job.
Archaeologists are the people who dig and find historical things. I think this is interesting
They find historical things like plate, sword, arrow etc.
Yes, I have lost my mobile phone but I found it three hours later.
Archaeogist is an interesting job. But there isn't work for them in Turkey. They find fossils and objects.
You must have learnt English every day.
I have a question about the answer of the fourth of Task 3. The answer is 'It must have taken you all day'. Does this mean that 'I spent all day to clean the whole house'?
Hello Haruyo,
Yes, that's right. The idea is that the only way the house could be as clean as it is was if someone spent the whole day cleaning it.
Best wishes,
Kirk
