Hello mehinaydinli,

1.822 is a number that is between 1 and 2 (and closer to 2). 1,822 is sometimes written as 1822 (especially when it's a year, but also for other kinds of numbers) and is the same number. 11,000 and 11000 are also the same.

I'm taking these activities seriously hahahahahah :) I'm sharing it with my friends, I'm also recording my scores. Thanks for this...

Who can explain the mean of ' by any chance' and' this might take sometime'. Thank you

Hello Emil,

You can find 'by any chance' in the dictionary. 'this might take some time' is a form of the expression 'to take time', which is also in the dictionary – be sure to read the example sentences and expressions under the basic definition.

After looking in the dictionary, if it's still not clear to you what these mean in context, please tell us your best guess and we can help you understand them better.

All the best,

Thank you for this useful recordings. It really helps me to improve my listening. :)

Hello!Which is correct?
A phone is on the small table. or
The phone is on a small table.
Thanks, beforehand.

Hello mehinaydinli,

Both sentences are grammatically correct. Which is the correct one to use depends on the context. Do the speaker and listener know which phone is being talking about? If so, then 'the' is needed. If they are talking about any phone (and it doesn't matter which one) then 'a' would be appropriate.

Articles are generally context-dependent. You need to think about what the speaker and listener know: what information is shared and what is new to them.

You can read more about articles in this section (use the links on the right) and on this page and this page.

Please tell me why i can't watch the video?

Hello danielcao2017,

There is no video on this page – Big City Small World is an audio podcast series, so there's no video on any of the pages here. If you're looking for video, I'd suggest Word on the Street, Britain is GREAT and Starting Out as resources for you.

If you have any trouble seeing videos in those sections, please try viewing them from our Chinese language site. It is optimised for users in China and generally works better there. It's also a good idea to try using a different browser or different device.
