So cool to read about everyone's home tradition they miss the most! I'm from England but I've been living in the States for five years and the thing I miss the most is Bonfire Night on November 5th.

The best thing about Bonfire Night is the fireworks, oh, and the bonfires! … and the history behind it. Basically, Guy Fawkes and his friends tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament and kill King James I. They nearly did it too – they hired a room under the House of Parliament and filled it with explosives. But someone told the royal palace. The authorities found Guy Fawkes in the room guarding the explosives, and he was sentenced to torture and death.

So it's a tradition that celebrates the fact that the king survived. It also means people don't forget what happens if you plot against your country. There's a kind of poem about it that starts 'Remember, remember the fifth of November, gunpowder, treason and plot.' That's why we build a 'guy' – a life-size model of Guy Fawkes – and burn it on the bonfire. Pretty dark and horrible when you think about it!

Tips

  1. It's nice to start by saying something that shows you have read other people's posts.
  2. In a class forum you can be quite informal.
  3. In informal writing you can sometimes miss out the beginning of a phrase:
So cool to read about everyone's home tradition ...
  4. Remember, in a forum you are part of a long conversation with a lot of other people so they might ask you questions.

Hello everyone it is really cool to read and learn traditions from the world. I'm from Turkey and as other countries we have several traditions and I like them all but I believe, which I am going to mention, one of the most important because it is about the reborning of the country. It represents of creating council. The day also gifted the childeren so it called ' National Sovereignty and Children's Day '. We just celebrated 100th year of it but unfortunatelly because of corona virus, we had to celebrate it from home two days ago. Even though celebrating it, was so fun.

So wonderful to see all these traditions from different side of the world with a lots of similarities, it makes me wonder about the ancient time and our ancestors and how was it their time. I'm from IRAN and we have one of the amazing celebrations in the world. Its start from beginning of the spring which is 21 of March . We call it NOWRUZ which means a new day and and it also is our first of our new year. We sat around a table which decorated with seven items which all start with 'Sin' and comes form nature like Apple, we pray for a good and healthy year a head and wait for the sound of troops to start our new year. During the whole event we go to see the elders, parents, family and friends. It's a time forgiveness and forget about the past. I love our tradition and it belongs more than 3 thousands years ago, it has a lot to say , but I hope you get a glance of it and may it trigger you to find more about it. now a days Nowruz registered in UNESCO heritage and it celebrates in lots of countries as we speak. PS. 'Sin' is one the Farsi alphabet

Hello, everyone, it's great to read about traditions from all over the world.:) I'm from Slovakia, and we usually celebrate Easter, Christmas and New year. Typical tradition for Easter is on Easter Monday, when boys /men, go visiting girls/women and pour water on them, in order to these girls and women stay beautiful and healthy for the whole year. Obviously, this tradition is loved by boys/men, but less by girls/women.:)

It's nice learn about differents countries from their traditions. In Colombia we have a lot of fairs and celebrations along of the year. The Carnaval of Barranquilla is one of the biggest Colombian traditions. It happens in February or March but its organisation last almost all year because it needs to prepare several parades and concerts.

Colombia keeps its allergy in spite of its problems. This is its principal tradition because there are many carnivals, friendly people, good food and amazing views BUT, its most important tradition is that the Colombians (in majority), always bathe and are clean... Everyday!

Hi everyone It is very nice to read and learn about different cultures around the world. I am from Colombia and I think the best tradition of my country is the ´´Blancos y negros´´ carnival. We celebrate this carnival the first week of the year, but only it is celebrated in one department of the country. It is amazing because there are colorfull floats wich represent the indigenous culture, architecture and mains traditions of the region. Also, there are music, traditional dances and delicious food. But the best is how the people play with paintings and foam. This tradition was born many years ago because there was a fusion of cultures. Really it is beautiful and I am so proud about my culture.
