Presenter: Welcome to today's show. We're very happy to have Anna Oliveira as our guest today. Anna is the creator and founder of HomeworX – spelled with an 'x' we should note – an app which helps teenagers with their homework. Thanks for coming in, Anna.
Anna: Thanks for having me.
Presenter: So, tell us about your app. How does it work?
Anna: Well, teenagers and their parents have numerous challenges when it comes to homework these days. In many families both parents work and don't have much available time to help their kids with their homework. And even if they do have time to help, they may not be able to offer support with the content. What I mean is, they may not know, or at least remember, enough in any given subject to support.
Presenter: You mean they might not be able to remember complex maths or might have never studied certain subjects, such as biology or economics, themselves?
Anna: Exactly. So they might want to support their children with their homework, but have neither the time nor the knowledge to do so.
Presenter: I see. So the app helps solve this problem?
Anna: Yes, and more. The next issue is that tutors can be expensive, and there may be long waiting lists for specialist tutors in the town or region you live in. Our HomeworX app brings students and tutors together online. Students can search a database of pre-approved tutors and sign up for live online support. They don't need to be in the same town or city.
Presenter: That sounds really great.
Anna: It is. And this approach also enables us to offer the tutoring services at lower prices because there's no travelling time involved for the tutor to get to the student's home. And tutors who live in remote areas are happy to get access to more students, and be able to work from home, even at lower rates.
Presenter: This all sounds great. So, how did you come up with the idea?
Anna: Well, as you might guess, I was one of those parents I described earlier. I really wanted to help my son with his homework, but I was either too busy with work or I didn't actually know anything about the subjects he was having difficulty with. Also, we live in an area where there aren't many tutors and the ones that are there are either very expensive or have long waiting lists.
Presenter: Yes. I can understand your predicament. Well, it sounds like a very useful app that is clearly meeting a need. And its popularity obviously speaks for itself.
Anna: Thank you.
Presenter: So, do you have plans for the future?
Anna: We've just secured some funding and hope to expand the range of services we offer using the app.
Presenter: We wish you the best of luck. Thanks again for coming in. That was Anna Oliveira, founder of the tutoring app HomeworX (with an 'x', don't forget!), which is available for both Apple and Android devices. Join us again next week for another business interview. Have a great week, everyone.
My favorit app to learn is Ielts Prep. It is very useful since I am preparing for Ielts exam but it could be more useful and valuable if we have access to more practice tests.
My favorite app for learning is BBC learning english because contents are well organised, and very attractive. It's easier to navigate on this app...
hi there
my favorite app for the moment is british council podcsts with the host tony grant , i like it because it features short talks of about five minutes on several themes
Indeed, my favorite application is the udemy platform where I find everything I'm looking for and under professional trainers who provided us with a tremendous effort.
I find Crehana very useful for learning. It has a wide range of topics to learn about, from personal development to IT😊
Please suggest an app or website to practice English speaking.
Good work 👍🏻
Before I tried many applications to learn English and there are numerous applications for it. Choosing an app to learn something is a little bit harder. But Hippocards is one of my favorite apps to learn English. It can give me both English and Chinese vocabulary to learn and strategies.
My favorite app to learn is Busuu. I find it really interesting to learn English from it.
I had had a really bad English before started learning English from it.
But, now my English is great and I don't even have to study English to pass English exams in the university.
I think the internet is a great place to learn things, I learned English and going to learn programming ♥️.
Busuu is a great app. I'm learning german on it.
I think it's a good idea to learn programming. It will help you a lot in many ways in your life.
I usually use the Udemy for learning. People have numerous options whatever they are interested in. For instance, I took a lecture about how can we better communication. I have two lecture about English and German. You can learn what you want. Even if you finish the course, you can use it again whenever you want. You buy once it is enough. I would you describe one more application which is MemRise. I use it to repeat words for learning to foreign languages. It's very beneficial.
BBC learning english is one of my favourite app since it has a bounch of interesting podcast so I can improve my listening skills.
Ma favourite app for learning English is Duolingo, but sometimes it is quite boring and too easy for me.
I don't really found the best app for me, but I want to find an app, that I find in it all about travelling.
and another app for foreign languages to make someone from Zero to hero in one language . Can someone recommend an App for either that or this ?
Thanks :)
and if someone wants to practice English. Free to reply me. It's really fun to me to practice english with others.
Hi, I want to improve my english
I have different apps for learning:from Mondly to IELTS Prep. It's difficult to choose the best or favourite, because all the apps have their own advantages.
When I am on my way home or somewhere else I use the apps. At home I prefer different courses . But on my opinion, the best way to learn languages is to communicate.
I love Discord for practicing English with other people. Coursera is also good for learning.
Could you share me channel of Discord coz I'm also preparing for IELTS?
My favorite apps to learn english are lyrics training, Anki and all the apps where I can listen to podcasts like Spotify or iVoox. I think the funniest app is Lyrics Training because you listen to music while learning new vocabulary and expressions. I find Anki useful for learning and remembering vocabulary. Finally, I think listening to podcasts you can learn about different topics while practicing your listening.
In my experience, I prefer the easyer apps that can help me improve my skills, and I prefer to use it in my phone more than my desktop
I might have not a favourite app for learning because I prefer the websites or webservices to help me learn, but I used to have installed the LearnEnglish Grammar (British Council) app to help me practise grammar and improve my vocabulary though, I used it mostly when I to traveled by bus to work, nowadays I ride my bicycle to get to work and I don't use it very often.
Thanks for the episode.
Great site!
In my experience, I did find the Anki app very useful. Anki is a desktop app with which you can create a set of flashcards from zero. The algorithm which regulates how many times you need to study and review your sets is very well done. Then, in addition to this, sometimes I use Italki on which I can practise my speaking skills. On it, you have plenty of teachers who can help you to improve drastically your fluency and make you feel comfortable speaking. That's how I set my learning journey up.
Actually, the best app for learning languages is Duolingo. It is very useful to learn any language you want. In this app, you can learn more than 20 languages and the way to learn is very effective and allows you to learn gradually. Learning through this application is fun and there is no boredom as if you are playing your favorite game.
One of my favourite apps is quizlet, as it let's me create my own flashcards and search for other already made up sets of cards.I also enjoy doing the activities that cambridge provides, for instance the image quizzes, they help me learn while having fun trying to guess.
my favorite app or website actually is the British council because it offers a lot of topics to practice with to get dozens of vocabulary in multiple subjects
My favourite app is Quizlet. It really helps me to expand my vocabulary.
I am from a non English country, so listening to native English speaker is quite hard for me to comprehend. For an instance, talking to my colleague. I have to ask them to repeat it few times for me to understand, if not I will just pretend that I get what they mean by, "nodding." The app that I have been listening to improve my English are Ted talks, IELTS app, and word of the day.
I have many favorite apps for learning. As I am from non English speaking country, I always try to improve my English. I have many apps on my phone like Cake, BBC app, VOA English and British council podcast….. Among them, what I like most is BBC learning English app because in that app, you can listen British accent, learn vocals and learn latest news.
1) My favourite app is Adobe Scan these days. It enables to scan all hard copies. So I could transformed all my hard documents to electronic forms. Therefore I can reach everything I need in any time and anywhere. This kind of efficient and revolutionary apps make me more productive and eager to learn.
2) My favourite phrase from this article is become 'When it comes to' which I just learned by you.
One more thing, could you control my writing so I can learn something new in English :)
Hi burak,
Sorry, we don't correct comments here, but we are very happy to answer any questions you have about specific words or structures so feel free to ask :)

My favourite app for learning English is called by Elsa Speak. Because Elsa is the best way to improve my English speaking skills and pronounce through real-world conversations. I always spend 10 minutes every day for speaking on Elsa and track my improve progress.
Well, The Cambridge dictionary app on my mobile is accessed the most by me. I would say I am a big fan of it as whenever I have any doubt about a new word, I just open it and search for its meaning. I find this app useful and pretty easy to deal with; however, I should point out that not always the app save your searching for a later re-check, for instance. That is not very pleasant because even after you have logged in with your personal account, something happens and the app does't present your history or it stops working suddenly.
What's your favorite app for learning and why?
My favourite app is Tandem because It´s pretty useful for practice my speaking, and inside that app you can find differents tools as traductor, share among others. Also it has differents rates if you would like to enroll with the objetive, you can find other peoples in your zone.
What's your favorite app for learning and why?
Personally, I feel it's difficult to absorb knowledge from school because it's boring and I have a short memory. so I have looked into numerous apps. And an app that is about learning Ielts vocabulary is useful, it's IELTS Vocabulary. For me, the app will help you learn vocabulary in an amenity way. When it uses space repetition method and vocabulary which is common vocab in IELTS. I am used to learning the app for 1 hour a day. It's particularly useful for me.
I don't have any app to learn English because In my opinion, the best way to learn a language is in a schoolar academy. what I mean is depend of the level you want to have for that language. So, anyone can learn the way they considerer are the best for them.
My favorites apps for learning are:
- Lexilize Flashcards (for memorize words, conjunctions and expressions);
- Google Podcast and Bibo English Listening (for listening training);
My huge difficulty is listening, this disturbs me in the conversation.
My favorite app for learning is Anki - a software that, through flashcards, helps you not forget anything. The main reason for my decision is because of what I've just said - through algorithms, Anki sets up your revisions about certain content on the right day. For instance, if you have added a flashcard about the Roman Empire but you didn't remember much about it, then Anki is going to bring it back to you soon. On the other hand, if you have added a flashcard about the U.S history and it was easy to remember, then Anki won’t bring it back really soon. Therefore, I recommend for anyone try Anki, whether you are studying History in high school or studying Economics in college.
I'm not learning English on any app. I learn from a website name British council.
When it comes to learning a foreign language, what make an app useful for me, it has to be competent and has a compelling teaching method, for instance, Busuu is usually being used nowadays. For others sort of stuffs is completely rare myself just pick one up, since I am freak for amassing apps.
Hello mahmoudrahaf,
The pages in our Skills section are not presented in any order and are instead in a list, as if they were on a bookshelf in a library. If you want to continue practising your listening skills, I'd recommend going back to the B2 listening page to choose another page.
You could also move to the Reading or Writing sections to try a lesson there as well.
Our subscribers have access to our courses, which are arranged in a particular order and where your progress is tracked.
All the best,
Kirk
