Hello Team. Could you please tell me your thought about the following sentence which I have read in a book in Egypt?
- It's known that women are worse surgeons than men.
Thank you.
The sentence is grammatically correct and factually incorrect. In terms of style it is formal. In terms of rhetoric it is a weak form of argumentation as it claims authority without any reference to the source of that authority (research, studies, statistics etc).
The original sentence does not tell us anything about how good or bad men are; it only tells us that women are worse. It offers a comparison between two groups, not an assessment of quality.
'Less good' suggests a more limited meaning: that both fit in the group 'good' but that one group (men) are higher within that group than the other (women).
When I was younger, I used to live in a crowded city .As I got older I prefer living in the countryside , i think that the air in the countryside is cleaner than the air in the city, I believe that cities are dirtier and nosier than villages.
Do you prefer living in the city or the countryside? Why?
After having both experiences, I can say that I prefer living in the city although I have even envied the people living in the village.
During the sixtieth of the last century, a lot of people moved from the villages to the towns to find a job (domestic migration); it was the reason because my family settled to a big city. There, I spent all my childhood.
Despite my family being-well, my parents had been filled with longing for the warmth of the village family, then they decided to return to the village; it is the time when I was a teenager.
I remembered that my neighbourhood was more exciting than the boring village; my life with my schoolmates was funnier and more enjoyable than with the new ones. I wanted to move one again to my city.
Right now, I am in my big city and I feel that living in the countryside is more exciting than being in a city, you can know each other, however in the city, speaking about the relationship, it is colder and farther, more dangerous, busier and, even, more boring that the village.
I want to go to my village.
I prefer living in the city because the countryside is boring. There are less activities there than in the city. Furthermore, there are more Job opportunity in the city than in the countryside.

Hello again. I think using "worse than" means that both men and women are bad surgeons, right? Isn't it better to say "less good"?

I prefer living in the city. City has more opportunities and is more interesting than the countryside.
I have reviewed the comparative adjetives and it's perfect for me because so
I can listen several people how talk with different entonations.
