Can you believe it? Someone in another group asked me to write some pages of their website in English and French. But they can't pay because 'I'm starting this business with no money.' He said he's a professional photographer and he can do some photos for me instead. Am I wrong to be angry?

Asher87

Nope! I’d be angry too

JayCee99

I can't help but here's the link to a friend's website. He is a French–English writer and translator www.franco-anglo-translations.com/About

Carla62

Er … asking people to work for free … not cool!

Asher87

^^^ This!

JayCee99

Oops! I thought you were looking for someone. Sorry for the misunderstanding smiley

Carla62

I can't pay my rent with photographs, sorry

Katie20

Exactly!

Mylo45

True, but professional photos cost a lot of money, especially if you're getting married. Sorry I don't speak French or I would do it cheeky

Katie20

Here's a link to his photography if anyone wants the job www.billsphoto.com/portfolio As you can see the website needs some work … wink

Carla62

@Mylo45 Maybe, but people always ask writers to work for free #PayMe

Katie20

Yep, if I need photos OK but I prefer to get paid with money

Tips

1. Writing in online forums is more like speaking.

2. You don’t have to put full stops (.) at the end of sentences.

3. Use ^^^ to show you’re talking about the post above yours.

4. Use @ and a person’s name to show clearly who you’re replying to.

5. You can use emojis.  cool

6. Stay calm and be polite. Some people get angry in online discussions but try to avoid that.

In the modern world forums looks like cemetery. You see that people have made some activity once upon a time, but now they are gone. Sometimes I get a bit sad because I wes active at some online forums and even made my own. But now people use chats, telegram channels and youtube to share some subjects, opinion and thoughts

I am not joining all of the discussions but only those interesting which i do prefer. Usually it's about childrens and raising them. Just because i do like children and well i have a lot of friends with families. I also do like have a discussion about space but thought at one time that it would be actually better if i could give good advices to others.

Shamely i am usually getting banned at some forums due to my hardness in not get involved with bad words. To be honest yeah, i am getting angry sometimes when i see stupid replies on my text but hey. Eventually everyone got their helpful thoughts after the talk.

My kids on the other side trying to be more social and join almost every interesting discussion when they see it. Not sure if this gonna be helpful for them but i guess yes. Why? Well, if you ask me i will tell you that it is actually pretty good when you are exchanging with other people about your thoughts and ideas. By the way i recommend you to do so and start for you kids well if you have them - from the simple pre-writing sheets. Sometimes it is also helpful for adults. As for me - tbh not that helpful but the boundaries of my knowledge have expanded greatly.

Yes I have joined the online conversation, I have joined a team of hackathon to develop a application for students to travel. I want to give my point of view but I feel that there is communication gap . I can't give my views due to conversation gap.

If a writing test has two questions, where the first one measures the use of capitalization and punctuation; and the second one measures writing complete/simple sentences (SVO/C)--- My question is, do I still have to penalize students if they make mistakes in capitalization and punctuation in the second question where it tests only writing sentence structure?

Hello Alle2022,

LearnEnglish is a site for English learners rather than teachers, so this kind of question falls outside of our scope here. I would say only that this is not a question with an answer in teaching methodology but rather one which is up to the test writer and/or institution. It's really a question of what the test writer wants to assess.

Rarely, tho I admit I used to be so hooked with social media before, then gradually I wean that obsession off, Since then I am now able to prioritize what really matters. I rarely join any discussions forum, It's not my thing besides it can cause dispute, People nowadays seem a bit defensive when you try to get your opinion across. We all have different opinion and I respect that, Needless to say I just keep my opinion to myself. That's why I rarely join any online forums.
