3. Interesting animals

We asked the LearnEnglish team what animals they find interesting or fascinating. Here's what they said.

I really like dogs. They're so friendly and they like interacting with humans. When you get back home after a long day at work, dogs come to the door to greet you and they are always excited to see you. They make you feel better, even if you are very tired! I'd like to have a pet dog one day, but I don't know whether a small, medium-size or large dog would be better.

Many years ago, I learned to identify the 30 most common birds where I lived, both by sight and by their songs or calls, as well as lots of common trees and plants. I was shocked at how different my experience of nature was after that. It helped me orient myself in the woods much more, and I also noticed many more details and got much more interested in birds. I wouldn't want to have one as a pet, though. To be honest, that seems a bit cruel to me.

I really like looking at insects! I know that may sound a bit strange, but I often stop when I'm out running to look at butterflies, worms, beetles and any other bugs I find. If you take the time to look at them closely, you see really unusual colours and features. I must admit, I don't have time for mosquitoes and flies, as they don't seem to have a useful function. They're just really annoying!

I love crows! They're super intelligent and have loads of different tools and tricks. Crows can use cars at traffic lights to crack open their nuts and they have fun skiing down roofs covered in snow. Check out all the YouTube videos of crows doing amazing things! Crows can also recognise and remember human faces, so don't be mean to a crow – they don't forget and forgive!

As for me, racoons and red pandas are really interesting creatures. Racoon looks like mix version of cats and dogs. They are really friendly and eat like a baby.

Also the influence of red panda cartoon hits me and I searched that animal on the internet. They are also really cute and fluffy. I'm dying to touch their first and pet them softly.

I haven't seen them in real life because I am from one of the Asian counties and we don't have that cute creatures.

I have to agree with you Mary ❤ ...Red pandas are delightful! I find Meerkats fascinating, I've only ever seen them on TV or at the zoo. They seem so intelligent and I love it when they stand up on their back legs and keep watch for predators. There is quite a famous TV advert in the UK that has 'puppet' Meerkats that talk. It advertises insurance I think. The baby one is sooooo cute!

I think that blue while is the most interesting animal. He is tremendous. I like the way it jumps over the water. It teaches us how to live alone and think for a better life and how self-peace is good for enhancing and growing. If I can, I would like to visit it, see it closely, and enjoy listening to its sight.

I love animals in general and I think we can learn a lot from them.
Since I have two dogs and I work from home, I spend a lot of time with them, so I notice their particular personalities, and it's really cool to see those differences.

True! All animals are fascinating in their own way. I saw a little snail a couple of weeks ago and stopped to touch it. The moment I made contact with its shell, it stopped moving and the head part was getting shorter significantly. I was awed by this movement. My point is, I think we need to make time pay attention to our surroundings to notice the little things which are interesting.

I love dogs although I should say the animals in general. Im agree whit those who say that the cats are very interesting, intelligents and above all independents. However there is someone special for me in the dogs, they transmit emotions and, in my oppinion, are able to interact whit humans for a long time and to share more moments than cats .

the animal most interesting and fascinating for me is the cat.
I love the felines in general, but they are a mistery! I say that becouse I find their habits fantastic. they are indipendent, aggressive, calm, when they decide to be it.
I have two cats and i never get tired of looking at them. every day they do something new or funny. I enjoy with them!

I find interesting the octopus because they are so smart and they can camouflage to avoid dangerous predators like sharks.

One animal that I find fascinating is the narwhal. The are mammals but they live in the ocean. That's not very rare but the also have a unicorn-like horn. That makes them look like an animal invented by a kid while he trying to come up whit a new animal.

This topic is interesting for me, because as a biologist, I see the beauty in all the different kind of animals. Sometimes animals scare me not for their appearance but for the texture of their skin, for example the sticky skin of frogs and the scales of snakes. On the other hand, I think that bats are beautiful, and they’re very useful for ecosystems and humans, even when people consider them dangerous and ugly. But the most amazing animals are insects and birds, because they are colorful and have nice sounds.

really , I haven't any pets. I thought that I don't like them. But, their kids are very pretty.

I like cats they are very beautiful and I think they are the best choise to have at my house .

I find that are all the animals are interesting that why I watch too many documentary about them. The most animal I find interesting is penguin, I just love them, how they move, walk, swim, take care of their chicks and everything about them.

I think you are doing a wonderful thing! Street cats must have a hard life and many people treat them badly so I am sure they will have a good home with you. They seem very comfortable and happy in your photo :)

I think parrots are very interesting animal. I love their songs or calls. They are very friendly. I love playing with them and feed them. they love flying and I love watching them. I love parrots because they are colorful.

I love animals and always watch documentaries about wildlife. Penguins are really fascinating animals. It's incredible the way they live, the way they recognize their mate, and how they take care of their pubs. They are awesome.

Yes, I agree with you. Their way of living is very similar to wolves.

I love dogs. They are very intelligent, friendly and playful. I haven't got a dog but one day I will. I think, dogs can relax people and make them calm, that's very important in our busy life. A dog can be a real trustworthy friend. Sometimes they don't eat and play if their masters are ill.
