Nina: As you know, our team has grown a lot in the past year and we feel we need to address the diversity in the team.
Brenda: How do you mean, 'address the diversity'?
Nina: Well, we all know that diversity in teams is a good thing, but it can also be a challenge for some people to respect and value people's differences. We've got a really diverse team here – people of different nationalities, backgrounds, religions, ages … and sometimes I don't feel we make the most of this.
Stefano: Yes, and even if it isn't specifically challenging, many people are simply unaware of the isolation that some team members may feel because they are different.
Brenda: So, what does this mean? What are we going to do?
Nina: Well, we need to create a workplace charter. You know, one that promotes equality, diversity and inclusion.
Brenda: That sounds like a good idea. But will people just see it as something the management team has created? Maybe they won't even pay attention to it.
Nina: I know. That's why we're going to involve everyone in creating it.
Stefano: That's a good idea. We could run some workshops and get ideas from the employees about how we can create a more inclusive workplace.
Nina: Exactly. I was thinking that before that we could run some team-building sessions so they can experience the value of diversity for themselves.
Brenda: Yes, I like that. Many people see diversity as something negative, often because there are different opinions or ways of doing things.
Nina: Yes, I know, but if there's no diversity, then the risk is that we all work in the same way, think the same and see the world the same. This makes it hard to be creative and to innovate.
Stefano: I completely agree, Nina. OK. So, what do you want us to do?
Nina: Stefano, can you look for a successful trainer who specialises in running workshops and team-building sessions on diversity and inclusion?
Stefano: Sure. I'll be happy to.
Nina: And Brenda, can you find a fun venue? Somewhere that is quite diverse itself. Something that's not the usual seminar-style environment?
Brenda: Sure. That'll be fun.
Nina: And I'm going to do some further research into how other organisations are benefiting from their diversity. I can share this with the whole team.
How diverse is your workplace? How can diversity benefit your team?
In the fiew past years, I was in the French High School of Berlin. Of course, most of the programm was in French but students were rather becoming from other countries partly from Africa and Arabic areas. Despite the fact that we were only speaking in French sometimes in German too, we were very openmind on the conversations' topic. Inclusion was really involved and always promoted in this school. In addition to nationalities, people with a style that can be perceive like "unusual" weren't left out at all. Difference and let's say wierdness was something of quite positive and modern. That was not perceive like something of completely nerdy and otherworldy. The school has gained on good vibes and on security. There was lots of love in the air!!
in the few years ago, i was in the Ethoipian civil service universty, that time i'm only foreign student in the glass so its defficult to understand amharic language rather than its was great time for me because i was try to learned amharic language and culture of those people.
Well, the past year, in my college the students always worked with "diversity". Although they had not the same opinions and ideas, often they looked the way to work in team and to be inclusive
Iam a med student and clinical research , and I can tell you that it's recommended to be you and your team from the same social / cultural background .
My workplace are really diversity i'm from brazil so in my country has a lot diference type of people, culture and religion
My workplace is absolutely diverse. We work with a people from different countries, cultures, religions, ages. It results to a lot of benefits: different ideas, opinions and ways to solve issues.
How diverse is your workplace? How can diversity benefit your team?
My workplace is not diverse because of the small team. Diversity is a major factor in the team, with the help of this team can think differently and solve various problems independently. Diversity enhances creativity and innovation means that the team can approach uniquely approach a problem. Moreover, it improves decision-making ability, which is very important for an organization.
I think The way they include People in these kind of groups should be immportan if they want to keep all together. They really need to understand the meaning to be part of this grup and only to be strongly together is the succesfull key to achieve the objetive.
How diverse is your workplace? How can diversity benefit your team?
My team is fairly diverse. Because they almost come from many different nationalities, cultures, religions, ages, and educations. This is an enormous benefit for my group; we can help each other with every difficult assignment as well as support ideas. A diverse group helps me get a large view and different points of view on a topic and have a great result. However, diversity in a group could be split up between other members of the group, as a variety of opinions can lead to conflict or dissent from each other. Thus, we need to create a charter in the workplace to promote equality, diversity, and inclusion.
In my workplace diversity isn't present, because we're a small team and we don't have time to do something else...I hope that in the near future within the growing of the compagnie, we"ll have activities like diversity, because it's really a good challenge to gave your opinions an ideas, and in the same time seeing the world so different.
