New Year's resolutions
Do the preparation task first. Then read the text and tips and do the exercises.
Preparation
Write about your New Year's resolutions for the coming year. Before you start, plan what you are going to include and think about who is going to read it.
My New Year's resolutions
by Darren
I like to start every year with my New Year's resolutions. Then I read them next 1 January and see how well I did!
Here are my resolutions this year.
1. Get fit!!
I say this every year but I hope writing it in public will make it more real. I'm aiming for three runs a week – I think I can do it! I think a fitness tracking app might help me achieve it. Or I could find a running partner. If anyone who's reading this wants to be my partner, let me know!
2. Save 10 per cent of my salary a month
Having no savings is starting to worry me and 10 per cent is realistic. It's not too much, but it's not too little that I won't see it add up. I'll put the money into a special bank account that will make it grow … Actually, I don't know much about that so maybe my next resolution should be to find out how to invest money!!
3. Cook more
I'd like to start inviting friends for dinner and cooking for them. I think once a month is a good plan. By the end of the year I want to have five dishes I can cook really well so people will say, 'Have you ever had Darren's delicious cooking?' Who wants to be my first guest?
Tips
- Before you start a writing task, make a plan. First, write down lots of ideas you could include. Then choose the best and most interesting ones.
- Don't write all your ideas in one section. Make one section for each idea. Write a heading for each section to show the reader what it's about.
- Think about who is going to read the text and choose the style accordingly. For your classmates, use an informal and clear style.
- Keep your reader interested by talking directly to them, e.g. by asking a question.
- When you have finished your writing, read it and check it for mistakes.
Hey everybody!
Here my resolution for this New Year.
Improve my English level to B2
To be honest with you, it's very painfull point in my plan. Just to understand to me better, entire my life i hated English or any type of languages to learn. Probably the root reasone of my behavior school teachers who implement in me anger to languages. But in my adopt life i start to enjoy it, but anyway fell overweighet with tasks what i have. When i finish this goal,it will be great result, and i will feel myself better.
Reduce fat and increase muscles
This is also important for me, i always was good in competition games like footbal, basketball etc. But always i hadn't enough stamina and tired so fast. The reason because my body weak, not a lot of muscles and a lot of fat in my honest opinion. So i want to fix it.
For now, that's all, also i want to enroll in University in Europe. Good luck for me to finish my 2 goals in this year!
I normally dont make new years resolutions, but have goals during the year, but here is my shot at it:
My new years resolutions
Getting better at English writing
I want to get better at writing English, and Im aiming at finishing all of these writing tasks at British Council first. Afterwards I will try to locate texts with formal English writing and at a higher level of English, and try to learn from them. Then I will try to write more complicated texts.
2. Cooking more vegetarian dishes
Im trying to incorporate vegetarian dishes in my repertoire. More healthy dishes with more vegetables. And that are not too expensive.
I don´t tend to do resolutions on new year, but i'll try this year
1- English improve: I want to improve my english skills because i want to do my master degree in Europe, and i need a C1. i see my favorite series on english, read articles, and speak to myself or AI. I try to practice at least 1 houre per day.
2- Go to a nutriologyst: I use to eat healthy food, but im stock on my weight, i've been going to the gym for 2 years and at the begining i see fast results, but now i'm stuck, i think that the problem is that i don't eat as much as i should.
MY NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS
by LINH LA
I like to start each year with New Year's resolutions. Then, I review and revise them in the middle and at the end of the year to see how well I did.
Here are my resolutions.
Yes, I try to do it every year, but I hope that saying it out loud will help me stay determined this time. I'm aiming to walk around 10,000 steps at least five days a week. I plan to join my company's walking club, and I also want to find a fitness band or watch to track my steps. Do you have any suggestions?
2. Improve my English
This goal is similar to 'Get fit', but I won't set an unrealistic target this time. I think I'll start by trying to study English for at least 15 minutes every day. Maybe I'll find a study partner. Who wants to learn with me?
3. Offer free swimming lessons
I love swimming and know how to do the breaststroke and freestyle. I've taught colleagues, friends, and others how to swim - especially the breaststroke - for free. I want to keep helping as many people as I can learn to swim, also for free. You'll just need to cover my swimming pool ticket. If you're interested in learning, feel free to contact me!
Yes, I always have my New Year's plan every year. Today, I wanna show you my arrangements this year as freshman and 2nd year student in upcoming schoolyear.
Pass HSK3 Chinese and Cambridge C2
I know right, Cambridge C2 Proficiency is the hardest in English Placement Test but I'll go the extra mile in Writing (my writing seems worse these days), Vocabulary (learn with flashcard sets on Quizlet), Listening (practise listening through my favourite TV shows, songs in English), Reading (read articles, newspapers, books and stories), Speaking (speak to myself, my friends and my teachers), about Chinese, I'll learn faster than my class paced and also ask my Chinese teacher about route to learn all my HSK3 Chinese curriculum.
- Sports
I have issue at playing badminton and worry about my result (I think I won't pass Physical Education at school result in learning again and big matter to my diploma in future), I'll try my best playing badminton well with my classmates.
- School results
Recently, I passed and got mark A in Reading-Writing, Listening-Speaking, mark B+ in English Pronunciation and Chinese, mark B in Literature and Physical Education, which makes me delighted. This semester, I need to work diligently in results more because we have to learn IELTS (a little bit harder for me).
-
But the three main ones are:
I don't make any New Year's resolutions because the goals are changing often but I still have some ideas.
I had mototrip for 2000 km in the last year. This year I want to buy new bike and got to another journey for 3000 km. It's still not too long distance but I plan to not use toll roads to see the country more. The passenger's place is free. Are you interested?
There's high inflation in my country so I want to save about $10000 for the future. Unfortunately, it's restricted to take of country more than this amount
I like the culture and climate of latin countries so I want to start learn Spanish and travel to one of them on some day.
I've already been on Sri Lanka, I'm in Thailand now, I want to visit Indonesia to finish this "triangle of force". Would you like to spend the winter in warm countries?
This are my New Year's resolutions!
I will focus on eating healthier by including more vegetables in my diet, while reducing processed aliments and sugary items. I also want to improve my sleep habits, I will prioritize my sleep by creating a consistent bedtime routine and to be able to sleep 7-8 hours of quality sleep each night.
I will dedicate more time to practicing English by reading books, watching movies, speaking and improve my fluency.
I will try new hobbies, such as coloring, to relax and express my creativity, while also exploring other activities that bring joy and balance to my daily life.
I'd like to write about my resolutions for 2025 and I hope by the end of the year I could achieve my goals.
1-self improvement
First of all I strongly want to work on my qualifications and my skills such as speaking English natively, study business administration and enhance my knowledge.
2-get fit
My physical shape is a big matter for me so I'd like to train daily to improve my health state and get a good shape.
3- read books
In fact I'm not a big fan of reading but lately I decided to take the initiative and find out a good book to read and I have a strong desire to continue reading.
New Year Resolution
I’m writing my resolution here. I believe in miracles and I want to attract good circumstances and opportunities. I know that all my dream will definitely come true.
1. Learn English better
I hope when I will learn English better I can get a higher salary. I will have the opportunity to treble the world. And I will meet new friends who live abroad.
2. Save 10 per cent of my salary a month
For me it is important when I have money I feel myself confident because I might help myself and my family.
3. Get fit
In new year I will start doing sports. I like stretching the most because I work in office and move very little. In my opinion this sport suit me best.
