Subject: 32 Acacia Avenue electricity problem
Dear Sam,
I'm writing on behalf of myself and my flatmates about Number 32 Acacia Avenue as we've been having problems with the electricity.
We noticed that if we use more than one appliance at night when the lights are on, the power cuts out. This means that we can't use the dishwasher at the same time as the oven, for example. For a while we have been careful but recently we have found that even in the daytime, more than one machine running can cause a power cut. Occasionally, the power cuts out for no obvious reason.
We know the electrician who came before couldn't find anything wrong, but please can someone come again as the problem is getting worse? If it would be easier, we can arrange an electrician ourselves and send you the bill.
Kind regards,
Eloisa
Tips
- To email someone who's not a friend, use a neutral style and polite tone.
- Start the email with Dear … , not Hi. End it with Kind regards or just Regards.
- Organise your email in three paragraphs:
- why you're writing
- the problem
- what you want the solution to be
- Keep it short and simple. Only include the important information.
- Put specific information in the subject line. Don't just put Problem.
Dear Michael,
I'm writing on behalf of my roommates and myself regarding Number 6, Bank Yeikthar Avenue, as we are experiencing a problem with the heater.
We noticed that when we use the heater for more than an hour, it automatically stops running for no reason. Since the weather is getting colder, we need to use the heater throughout the night and whenever necessary. The first time I informed you, you sent an electrician, but he could not identify the issue.
If it would be easier, we can arrange an electrician ourselves and send you the bill.
Kind regards,
Mya
Dear Rowling,
I´m writing on behalf of the flatmates in Sorgenfri 3A.
We are having problems with the shower mixer, it only sends out cold water, regardless of what is displayed on the mixer.
Please could you send somebody to lok at it? If it´s easier we could call a plumber ourselves and send you the bill.
Thank you for your help.
Best regards,
May

Subject: Air Conditioning Problem In Fourth Room
Dear Karla,
I'm writing on behalf of myself and my roommate regarding the 4th room, as we are experiencing a problem with the air conditioner.
On Friday, June 20th, we were still using it normally at night. But when we woke up on Saturday, the air conditioner was no longer cooling. The display showed the error code E3. I turned it off then tried to turn it on again, but a brown liquid started leaking from it.
Could you please arrange for someone to check the issue as soon as possible, as the weather has been getting hotter lately? If it's convenient, we can arrange for an electrician ourselves and send you the bill.
Kind Regards,
Linh La

I have problems with accomodation right now, but we will move after two weeks so I don't want to solve them) Faucet in the bath is leaking. We could call our landlord to send someone to fix it but I don't want anyone to disturb us.
Not really, I have not had a bad experience renting an accommodation.
Thanks for the lesson.
Great site!
