So cool to read about everyone's home tradition they miss the most! I'm from England but I've been living in the States for five years and the thing I miss the most is Bonfire Night on November 5th.

The best thing about Bonfire Night is the fireworks, oh, and the bonfires! … and the history behind it. Basically, Guy Fawkes and his friends tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament and kill King James I. They nearly did it too – they hired a room under the House of Parliament and filled it with explosives. But someone told the royal palace. The authorities found Guy Fawkes in the room guarding the explosives, and he was sentenced to torture and death.

So it's a tradition that celebrates the fact that the king survived. It also means people don't forget what happens if you plot against your country. There's a kind of poem about it that starts 'Remember, remember the fifth of November, gunpowder, treason and plot.' That's why we build a 'guy' – a life-size model of Guy Fawkes – and burn it on the bonfire. Pretty dark and horrible when you think about it!

Tips

  1. It's nice to start by saying something that shows you have read other people's posts.
  2. In a class forum you can be quite informal.
  3. In informal writing you can sometimes miss out the beginning of a phrase:
So cool to read about everyone's home tradition ...
  4. Remember, in a forum you are part of a long conversation with a lot of other people so they might ask you questions.

Hi everyone,

It`s so cool to read about other tradition. I`m from Syria,  we have many celebrations and I want to talk about one of the most famous ones, so we always celebrate it on march 21, and it is called "mother`s day". On that day, we celebrate with our moms and we also give them presents to show respect for them. During the day, we have a party, meet with family, and wish all mothers a happy and beautiful life. So it is a nice tradition that shows the importance of mothers in our lives.

Hello everyone!

I would like to share a tradition in Egypt. Being an Islamic and Arabic community, we celebrate Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. Eid al-Fitr comes after the month of Ramadan, and we celebrate a lot on these days.

First, we pray the Eid prayer, then we go out to streets that are filled with happy people and fun activities. After that, people go back to their homes to sleep, then they visit their neighbors and relatives. Children and young people hang out together and go to restaurants and amazing places, and so on.

Some people also go to cemeteries to spend some time with their family or friends who have sadly passed away.

It’s so cool to read about everyone’s home traditions. In Indonesia, we celebrate Independence Day on August 17 each year. This festival comes in many forms, such as a costume parade, an antique vehicle parade, fun competitions including sack race, climbing tree, tug of war, eating chips, sarong race, bakiak race, and many more. This festival is held to commemorate all the heroes who have been fighting for Indonesia’s freedom from colonialism and as a gratitude toward God. This festival could be held a week before or a week after Independence Day.

Hi I'm Mohamed from Algeria I read your comment and I like your traditions of celebrate independence, it's look like our celebrate independence.

So cool to read about everyone's home tradition they miss the most!  I'm from myanmar but now I'm currently live in UK. My topic is about Thingyan Festival which is one of the burmese traditions. Thingyan Festival, also known as the Myanmar Water Festival, is the most important traditional festival in Myanmar. It marks the Myanmar New Year and usually takes place in mid-April, during the hottest time of the year. People celebrate Thingyan by splashing water on each other, which symbolizes washing away sins and bad luck from the past year. During this time, many people build temporary stages called pandals, where music, dancing, and water-throwing activities take place. Thingyan is also a time for doing good deeds, such as offering food to monks, freeing animals, and donating to charity. Traditional foods like Mont Lone Yay Paw are shared among family and friends. The festival brings joy, unity, and hope for a fresh start, making Thingyan a beautiful expression of Myanmar culture and tradition.
