So cool to read about everyone's home tradition they miss the most! I'm from England but I've been living in the States for five years and the thing I miss the most is Bonfire Night on November 5th.

The best thing about Bonfire Night is the fireworks, oh, and the bonfires! … and the history behind it. Basically, Guy Fawkes and his friends tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament and kill King James I. They nearly did it too – they hired a room under the House of Parliament and filled it with explosives. But someone told the royal palace. The authorities found Guy Fawkes in the room guarding the explosives, and he was sentenced to torture and death.

So it's a tradition that celebrates the fact that the king survived. It also means people don't forget what happens if you plot against your country. There's a kind of poem about it that starts 'Remember, remember the fifth of November, gunpowder, treason and plot.' That's why we build a 'guy' – a life-size model of Guy Fawkes – and burn it on the bonfire. Pretty dark and horrible when you think about it!

Tips

  1. It's nice to start by saying something that shows you have read other people's posts.
  2. In a class forum you can be quite informal.
  3. In informal writing you can sometimes miss out the beginning of a phrase:
So cool to read about everyone's home tradition ...
  4. Remember, in a forum you are part of a long conversation with a lot of other people so they might ask you questions.

It’s really interesting to discover traditions from other countries; I greatly appreciate it. In Valencia, Spain, we have a similar tradition called “Fallas”, which is celebrated from March 1st to 19th. The best thing about Fallas is that local artists build huge satirical monuments which are located throughout the city of Valencia. When night falls, these monuments are burnt. It’s so magical and fun. I recommend that you all come here and experience Fallas!

It is nice to read comments. In them, I get a hint about other countries' traditions. Among them, there is a tradition that we celebrate, but I will choose one to talk about. Here in Palestine, as a Muslim country, we celebrate Eid Al-Adha. In it, we focus on charity and family gatherings. We sacrifice animals like lambs, cows, or camels to feed the poor, and we spend time visiting neighbors and relatives.

This celebration is a very ancient and important part of our culture. It is a time for sharing and helping those in need, which makes the atmosphere very special and joyful for everyone.

I read some of the articles, and they are really interesting.

I have a favourite tradition too. In my city, we have a Christmas Market. It's a market where you can meet with friends or family at Christmas.

You can buy sweet treats or meat. But you can also buy, for example, candles or useful things like brushes for cleaning your house.

The market is decorated with lights and Christmas Trees. Sometimes you can see Santa Claus. He walks around and gives small kids sweets.

It’s nice to know tradition from other countries. Here in Indonesia, we have lots of beautiful traditions such as the dancing horses called ‘Kuda Renggong’ from West Java. Basically, Kuda Renggong is traditional performance that shows horse attraction by dancing following the rhythm of the music. It’s absolutely fascinating performance to saw.

I am from Bangladesh. Bangladesh is a beautiful country. There are many traditional days and festivals in Bangladesh, such as Pohela Boishakh (the Bengali New Year), Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Adha, Durga Puja, Kali Puja for Hindus, and Buddha Purnima. We also observe Language Movement Day, Independence Day, and Victory Day.

Among these, I like Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha the most. These are the biggest festivals in our country. People of all religions celebrate these days with joy and happiness. They spend quality time with their family and friends.

On these days, children and family members visit relatives and neighbors. They sit together, talk, and share their joys and sorrows. They eat different kinds of food at their relatives' houses. In the evening, they visit parks with their family members.

Another festival is Pitha Utsob. It is celebrated in the winter season. We can see many kinds of pithas made by women. People arrange pitha stalls and decorate them colorfully. They sell pithas to customers.

Hello, I'm from Colombia, and the most traditional activity in Colombia is Candle Day. It's celebrated every December 7th on the night. Colombians spend time with their family and friends, light candles, and share food and drinks. Some families even dance the night away. It's a great time to get together with family, friends, and neighbors.

What tradition do you like best from your country?

I read all the articles, and  i say, I love these articles. HMMM My favorite tradition of my country  is the easter. Because a like colourful eggs, chocolate bunny and more sweets. But, my favorite thing about easter is walking to random houses and hoping, that there is a girl home. Because if she is, I can beat her so she doesnt get ugly and then she gives me some sweets or sometimes money. Next good thing about easter is if you beat the girl well, her father gives you a shot of slivovica. And you ride like a carousel. And then you go to the next house, if you can.

Hello everyone, I'm from Turkey. We have lots of different traditions but I think the most important ones are started in the founding years of Republic of Turkey. Our first pesident Atatürk have given the 23th April to the all children in the world. On 23th April if you have a walk in the cities you may see or hear some celebrations of children's with songs, dances and shows.  I can remember in my shcool there were many activities was happening including reading poems, dance shows and of course reading our national anthem. In these days celebrations are less than past days but I think people still have some kinda emotional feelings about 23th April.
