How can I improve my English speaking skills as without grammar mistakes.i should write IELTS exam on January.please give me any tips for that.

Hello Satheeshkumar,

There's some advice on how to use LearnEnglish to improve your speaking on our Frequently asked questions page. As for the IELTS, I'd recommend TakeIELTS and the British Council IELTS channel on YouTube.

If it's feasible for you, you might also want to consider an IELTS preparation course at a British Council centre in India.

Good luck!

I wanted to know, if I write 4 P.M. instead of 4 pm so will I get marks or not. Because, in listing practice session, I wrote 4 P.M, and it was marked as wrong.

Hello skan.lalabagh,

Spelling is important in the IELTS listening test and you will lose a mark if there is a spelling error in your answer.

Latin abbreviations in English are generally written as follows: we put a space before them, we use lower case and we put full stops between the letters. For example:

However, there are exceptions. Certain abbreviations are commonly capitalised and some are used without full stops. For example, we generally capitalise 'PS' and often write it without full stops. I have seen a.m. and p.m. written with capital letters and both with and without full stops so although I would always write them as shown above I don't think you would lose a mark in this case.

Best wishes,

Thank you!

It is necessary to improve English every day, Specially if you will have been getting a FCE exam coming soon, In other words next month.

1) Underline key word in the question to help you with listening
2) Answer every question ,there is no negative marking
3) check your spelling , you will be penalized to get it wrong

Hi there
I have a question about capitalization on the listening section of the IELTS. Imagine the right answer is "Tuesday" and a candidate writes "tuesday", that is to say, he does not capitalize "Tuesday". Will he lose marks for this question?

Many thanks in advancce

Hello Hadi Binandeh,

As far as I know, you would not lose points for incorrect capitalisation in the IELTS listening test. If you don't want to worry about it, you can write your answers in all capitals and it is OK.

This is the story of myself when I first entered Saint Louise High School.

I have questions for the above sentence for help:
1. Is it correct that the sentence is a mix of present tense and past tense?
2. What type of sentence? Is it simple, compound or complex sentence?
