It is really useful. Thank you, British Council website.

With the topics of discussion

1.) How much of your week is spent shopping?

Ans: I usually go shopping twice a week.

2.) Is the internet a good way to buy things? Why/why not?

Ans: In my opinion, I think it's a good way for customers nowadays. It can help people buy something easily on the website without going shopping. However, there are some drawbacks of buying thing on the internet, for example, the customer can't see what the product look like until it's delivered to them. Even though the picture attached on the website, it can always be seen an issue from customer complaint such as condition of product or the color is not the same as the picture on the internet.

Thank you :)

Hello alpha2re,

It's great that you want to practise speaking with someone, but I'm afraid that our House Rules, which are designed to protect users, prohibit the sharing of your phone number or other personal information you'd need to contact another user to do this.

sir,I've some pronounciation problem and fear while speaking English. Will you please give me an idea how to improve myself.please replay me anyone.Thank you.

Hello Sharmila Raja,

To improve your pronunciation two things are important: good models and consistent practice. Good models means listening to authentic natural English, and consistent practice means taking every opportunity to speak English that you can.

Fortunately, good models are freely available. You can find audio and video materials on LearnEnglish in the appropriate section, and you can also find all sorts of examples on the internet, of course. You can listen to the recordings here on LearnEnglish and use the transcript; then you can try to say it yourself; then you can listen and speak at the same time, trying to keep to the same pace, cadence, stress and so on. That will help to develop fluency and improve your pronunciation, and to communicate in English in the wider world.

I hope those suggestions are helpful.

Best wishes,

very nice this site...a look for such site for ages

It is useful but I couldn't understand the meaning of following sentences;
Could do with a pair like that myself.
I’ve been looking for that book for ages!
It’s a tasty tasting sandwich too...
Could do with??
for ages??
tasty tasting??
I will be highly appreciated if someone tell me the meaning of these sentences.

Hello nasir.anzoor,

'Could do with...' means 'I could do with...', which means 'They would be useful to me'.

'For ages' means 'for a very long time'.

'Tasty tasting' is not something we'd usually say. It is a joke here: the man says the sandwich is 'tasty looking' and the woman responds that it is 'tasty tasting'; in other words, the woman says it looks tasty and the man replies that it is tasty.

I hope that clarifies it for you.

Best wishes,

The LearnEnglish Team
