IELTS interview is different from a job interview. Be sure to showcase your English ability, not your job qualification.

Are job interviews the same as IELTS interviews? The answer is, in some ways they are and in others they are not.

How are they the same?

In a job interview and an IELTS interview you are asked questions and based on your answers you are judged by another person. In both you are trying to create a good impression.

How are they different?

In a job interview you are trying to showcase your experience, your qualifications and your skills and expertise that are relevant for the job you are applying for. In contrast, in an IELTS interview you are only showcasing your level of spoken English and it is this that the examiner will judge you on.

In an IELTS interview you do not need to sell yourself in terms of your job qualifications or experience, you simply need to demonstrate to the examiner your competence in English. Unfortunately in our video clip, Joao does not understand this and concentrates on selling himself more than selling his English ability.

Dear sir

in Frequently asked questions there was many spelling mistake

Hi,
This is Sidharth from India. May I have a suggestion how to improve my vocabulary and pronunciation?

Thanks and Regards

Hello Siddharth,

I'd suggest you read through our Frequently asked questions page, where you'll find lots of useful advice, including some on how to improve your vocabulary, and, inside the advice on improving your speaking, ideas on how to improve your pronunciation.

You can also use a good dictionary (e.g. the Cambridge Dictionary) to hear how words are pronounced in isolation. Just click or press on the small icon next to the words to hear them. But it's also a good idea to use one our audio or video resources (e.g. Elementary Podcasts) to hear people speaking. You can read the transcript and imitate their pronunciation, which will help you learn intonation and lots of vocabulary as well!

Hello sirume,

I'd recommend you read our Frequently asked questions page, where you can find advice on how to use our site to improve your English. For the IELTS, I'd recommend our IELTS section and also TakeIELTS as good sources of information, though there are also plenty of others available on the internet. You might also want to consider visiting the British Council in Kathmandu to see if they have anything that might be useful for you.

Hi dears,
Can you hear what's being said in this video? The song is very low.

Hello newbotchak,

I've checked and I can hear the audio, though it's true that it's not very loud. I'll see if there's anything I can do to improve it. In the meantime, please note that you can read what Joao says by pressing Transcript, where you'll see the words he says.
