IELTS interview is different from a job interview. Be sure to showcase your English ability, not your job qualification.

Are job interviews the same as IELTS interviews? The answer is, in some ways they are and in others they are not.

How are they the same?

In a job interview and an IELTS interview you are asked questions and based on your answers you are judged by another person. In both you are trying to create a good impression.

How are they different?

In a job interview you are trying to showcase your experience, your qualifications and your skills and expertise that are relevant for the job you are applying for. In contrast, in an IELTS interview you are only showcasing your level of spoken English and it is this that the examiner will judge you on.

In an IELTS interview you do not need to sell yourself in terms of your job qualifications or experience, you simply need to demonstrate to the examiner your competence in English. Unfortunately in our video clip, Joao does not understand this and concentrates on selling himself more than selling his English ability.

Hello sirume,

I'd recommend you read our Frequently asked questions page, where you can find advice on how to use our site to improve your English. For the IELTS, I'd recommend our IELTS section and also TakeIELTS as good sources of information, though there are also plenty of others available on the internet. You might also want to consider visiting the British Council in Kathmandu to see if they have anything that might be useful for you.

All the best,

Hi dears,
Can you hear what's being said in this video? The song is very low.

Hello newbotchak,

I've checked and I can hear the audio, though it's true that it's not very loud. I'll see if there's anything I can do to improve it. In the meantime, please note that you can read what Joao says by pressing Transcript, where you'll see the words he says.

Hi !
My name is Hiba and I am a TA at uiversity of Khartoum, which I did graduate from it's chemical engineering department. I am considering to take IELTS exam to get scholarship as soon as possible.
The only problem that is facing me is money, my financial situation will not support me to have any preparation courses. however this didn't stop me at all , i looked up at internet until I found this one.
Sorry for the long introduction but I intended to make it like that so I can thank you all, thanks for the great job and amazing videos , tips and transcripts.

Hi Hiba. I am from Cameroon. It is a common problem especially in our poor Countries. I am facing similar difficulties. Don't worry because your confident in your endeavour, and interacting in these kind of platforms will give more strenght to your momentum. A great deal of my knowledge in English results from personal effort. By the time you will be able to afford the IELTS exam, your chance of getting a good score will be high

Hello Hiba Abbas Ali,

That's great! Have you seen TakeIELTS? That could also be really useful for you.

Good luck on your test!

Best wishes,

both of them are interview, but in the job, grammar, fluently, accuracy and pronunciation are not important and in IELTS is pivotal.
