IELTS interview is different from a job interview. Be sure to showcase your English ability, not your job qualification.

Are job interviews the same as IELTS interviews? The answer is, in some ways they are and in others they are not.

How are they the same?

In a job interview and an IELTS interview you are asked questions and based on your answers you are judged by another person. In both you are trying to create a good impression.

How are they different?

In a job interview you are trying to showcase your experience, your qualifications and your skills and expertise that are relevant for the job you are applying for. In contrast, in an IELTS interview you are only showcasing your level of spoken English and it is this that the examiner will judge you on.

In an IELTS interview you do not need to sell yourself in terms of your job qualifications or experience, you simply need to demonstrate to the examiner your competence in English. Unfortunately in our video clip, Joao does not understand this and concentrates on selling himself more than selling his English ability.

Hello maha sarfaraz,
The best thing you can do is to practise as much as possible.  Perhaps you can think of someone who you can practise with, such as a friend who is also learning English, for example, but even if you cannot find a practice partner there are some things that you can do.
First, try to listen to good models of everyday English and try to copy them.  When I was learning a foreign language, I used to listen to audio texts and try to speak along with them, and it was very useful for me to develop fluency.  You can use the transcripts while you listen or watch and try to speak along with the text you are listening to.
Another useful thing to do is to speak to yourself!  I used to talk to myself, in a foreign language, in my house at home while I was making things to eat or getting ready to go out.  Even without a teacher or even a partner, I got used to speaking quickly and confidently and I really improved my fluency.
You might also have a look at English Central which has some good resources for listening and speaking, and the BBC's Engish language learning site which has many interesting activities based around the BBC's programmes.
I hope these suggestions help you.
Best wishes,
The LearnEnglish Team

Hello Tony Vuong!
Well, without knowing your particular strengths and weaknesses, I can't give you any specific advice! A teacher who knows you will be able to give you better direction!
However, the most important thing to do is to keep practicing. Why not have a look at our IELTS Tips page? You'll find tips from successful candidates there to improve your score, and if you look through the comments, you'll see lots of advice from other learners and the LearnEnglish team on how to improve your IELTS scores in all areas. You might find our sister site, TakeIELTS, useful, too!
Good luck in your exam!

Hi i am Ahsan can i find any friend to do speaking exercise on skype?

Hello Muhammad!
We're happy that you want to talk to other learners on the website, but please remember that our house rules ask you not to share or ask for personal information – and this includes Skype details. This is to protect all our users! We're looking at ways to make it easier for learners to talk to each other, but for now, please practice your English by leaving messages for other learners in the comments section of each page.
Enjoy the rest of the site!

it's very interesting and useful but could you tell me any reasonable answer in each situation in the end of each video, please?
