Einstein's relativity equation

Do you need to write assignments or essays for Physics class? This page can help you!

As it is concerned with understanding the nature of matter and energy, physics underlies nearly every other discipline in the natural as well as applied sciences. As such, the study of physics is invaluable preparation not only for research, but also for work in a variety of industries.

To write assignments about physics, the first thing you need to know is the vocabulary. We've analysed high-scoring student assignments to find the words that are used most often. For exercises about vocabulary related to physics go to this page:

Physics Vocabulary

Secondly, and most importantly, you will need to learn how to write certain types of assignments ('genres'). In physics, you will probably write:

  • Explanations, where you describe something, how it works and how important it is
  • Methodology Recounts, where you practise recording experimental findings by describing your methodology.

Each of these genres has an individual style you will need to learn. If you're short of time, you can go directly to the pages about these genres, but we recommend you start at the beginning of 'Writing for a Purpose' and work through all of it.

If you read all the materials, you'll be better able to identify what sort of assignment you have to write – your tutor usually won't tell you. Also, not all physics courses are the same and they might include assignments in different genres from the two typical ones above.

Hi. can you tell me that this sentence is true or not ? "Calculating of roughness effect with using perturbation theory." Thank you before hand.

Hello Sara-92,

No, I'm afraid that is not a grammatically correct sentence. It does not have a finite verb, for one thing, and so cannot be a sentence. I would say it looks like a title and the correct version might be:

Calculation of the effect of roughness via perturbation theory

This is grammatically correct. However it may not correctly express your intention - I cannot say without knowing the context in detail.

Best wishes,
