In Sri Lanka only about two GM products are available . The wheat flour and soya products are the only two we eat as GM products. Most vegetables we eat are hybrid products. We import most seed from other countries.

In Brazil I think that a GM waits 10-15 years to be marketed. The transgenics can be good and bad. I believe that we need to know how to use them.
We have a example, our Bt crop. These crop is resistent to a broad, so when we use these crop we can use less insecticides. But it's necessary to respect some things, like a period of Empty sanitary.
In my opinion we need to learn how word with GM - Farmers, consumers and governments- and to find a new type of agriculture, that can be more economically and environmentally sustainable.

In my country, Chile, there are many controversial debates about this issue, beacuse Chile started producing GM seeds in 1996, and since then , it has become the 5th largest producer of GM seeds, to export. Chile don´t allow use GM seeds for national or domestical cultivation, but there is a "legal gap"about the exportation of it. So, there are 2 political postures for that issue, in one hand, the Chilean senate is reviewing a bill that allows multinational companies to pattent GM seed in Chile ( companies like Monsanto) , and in the other hand the oponents argue that patents rights would allow corporations to increase the seed´s price and restrict their use.
I have a neutral opinion because in one hand I´m worried about the damage to nature for the use of GM seeds by farmers around the world, but in the other hand i thinks it´s good for the productivity, because it generates higher incomes, by the increase crop productivity and lowers the productivity costs. Other benefits are that this techonology may estimulates the amounts of vitamins in products

According with the first question, in my country Spain the law allow to sale GM food. Most of the countries in the EU have decided no to allow the cultivation of transgenic plants in their territories like France or Germany but Spain isn't one of them, so the planting of genetically modified maize is still in force.

According with the second question, in my opinion GM foof is a threat to the future because its cultivation involves the uses of pesticides against pests harmful to health ( such as glyphosate )

I don't think we cultivate any GMOs here in Algeria, yet, they are imported from other countries such as France and Spain. GMFs are more expensive than organic food, however, much more pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers are used in organic farming, the damage of which isn't less than GMOs.

We have currently laws in Brazil that permits the cultivation of GM - Rice, soya, etc. It is a very complex legislation that , for example, specifies distance between of the GM and non GM cultivation. My I: I believe now a days , unfortunately, it is necessary the GM. My counterpoint is the amount of pesticide used currently in the plantation. I believe GM reduces it!

In my country, France, we have very restrictive laws against GM crops, because the french are generally very cautious for a lot of things !!
I work in biotechs and, because I know them, I think that some biotechniques are inevitable in our future, as you have written.
However, we have to control them with efficient legislation and by organizations with no conflict of interest. If not, we will encounter same problems like those with chemicals products. Do you have this type of independant (and non linked to biotech industries) organizations in Brazil ?

I am closer to Ann's opinion becouse I am more sure in eating fresh
