Thanks,that was useful

Thanks for these podcasts, really nice and helpful.

(this will rub off on those around you), what did he mean by this sentence?

Hello Anjlik,

You can find a definition for 'rub off' in the dictionary, along with example sentences. I think that will clarify this sentence for you, but if not, please let us know.

All the best,
The LearnEnglish Team

Hi Kirk,
Thanks, I got the idea that he meant that the positive act or feeling will transfer to those around us

The problem was that I looked in 2 online dictionaries from English to my first language, before I've asked about the meaning of rub off , and both gave the synonym: take off or remove .

Hi Anjlik,

That's the right meaning. Unfortunately, bilingal/translation dictionaries are often not the most accurate sources, and that's why we recommend using a monolingual dictionary like the one on the right of the page. It sounds like the definitions you got were more appropriate for 'rub out' or 'rub off' rather than 'rub off on'.

Best wishes,

The LearnEnglish Team
