Sarah goes for an interview with Marcia and Philip.

Do the Preparation task first. Then watch the video. Next go to Task and do the activity. If you need help, you can read the transcript at any time.

Task 1

Comprehension task

Read the statements and decide if they are true or false.

Task 2

Business Notes

In the interview Sarah is asked some difficult questions, but these are quite typical, standard interview questions. Here are a few more:

Why do you want to work for us?

Give us an example of a time when you did not meet your goals or objectives?

Give us an example of a situation where you faced conflict or difficult communication problems and how did you deal with it?

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

What would your current manager say are your strengths?

What do you think are your weaknesses?

Why should we give you the job?

Do you prefer working in a team or on your own?

What is the first thing you would change, if you were to start working here?

Vocabulary: Describing jobs

Fill in the gaps in the sentences with the adjectives in the box.

The video was very entertaining and Clara obviously got the job she was very clear in her answers and did not make the mistakes of Daniel, it was clear and concise

I agree with the majority that this episode is very useful.
Interview was educational and that is most important.

I made my first (from episode 1) two mistakes with the adjectives "motivating" and "stimiluating". In my opinion the context of the sentences above is the best explanation of the difference between them.

Could you please explain the difference between stimulating and motivating?

Hello Katia28,

Please check the meaning and example sentences for these 'stimulating' and 'motivating' in a good dictionary. If the difference is still not clear after that, you're welcome to ask us a specific question or two in which you explain what you think the difference is. We can then confirm your understanding for you. I think you'll understand the difference much better this way, and get good practice for learning this kind of thing in the future.

Very interrested video.
For me, Sarah got the job. She didn't make Daniel's mistakes.
So helpfull and opened our mind.

sarah took responsability to made this interview I would like be like her

I thing that Sara will get this job, she's very clear in her answers and she looks confident and confortable as well.

Comparing to Daniel in the last video, I'm sure that Sarah will get this job. First of all, she is sincere and eager to work voluntarily. It seems she would like to challenge and could handle under pressure. If I were the CEO, I would get her immediately

NB: please correct my comment and give me some advices. Thanks

Hello dutchman,

Thank you for your comment. I'm afraid we don't correct comments on LearnEnglish as it is simply not possible for us to do this for the many thousands of users we have! However, we do read every comment and reply where we can.

You use adjectives and idioms nicely in your comment. However, pay attention to whether or not a word is a verb or noun, and whether an object is needed: we should say ...she would enjoy the challenge... and ...could handle herself under pressure.

Best wishes,

The LearnEnglish Team
