Task 2

Business Notes

In the final video Sarah starts her first day at WebWare and Philip and Marcia show her around the office. Sarah is surprised to find that she doesn’t have to hot desk. Hot desking is the practice of using any available desk at work, instead of having a desk assigned to you and is quite common in UK companies. It is often associated with flexible working and work-life balance, two buzz words in corporate life these days.

Flexible working is a phrase that describes any working pattern adapted to suit the needs of the employee.

Common types of flexible working are:

part-time: working less than the normal hours, perhaps by working fewer days per week

flexi-time: choosing when to work (there's usually a core period during which you have to work)

compressed hours: working your agreed hours over fewer days

staggered hours: different starting, break and finishing times for employees in the same workplace

job sharing: sharing a job designed for one person with someone else

home working: working from home

This is absolutely fantastic. I am happy to be here. I guess I'll soon get mastery of how words are pronounced accurately in English as well as keep fast pace with natural speakers. This is indeed a useful resource for my forthcoming IELTS academic version exam. Thanks very kindly.

It is an awsome authentic material for English learners. I am an EFL teacher and can tell you how good this material is.

Great job to the Learningenglish team

Dear Learning English Team
This is awesome lesson material for many expatriates from non English speaking world!
I am really looking forward to sequel to "You're Hired". It should show how Sarah handle her business in Webware focusing on English communication in the workplace.
I was wondering whether you are planning to make "You're hired 2"?

Hello ironmund!
It's great to hear you like our materials, and thanks for your kind words! As for a sequel to "You're Hired", we don't currently have plans to do this, but it's an interesting idea, and I'll pass it on.
