How we make adverbials

An adverbial can be an adverb:

He spoke angrily.
They live here.
We will be back soon.

or an adverb with a quantifier:

He spoke really angrily.
They live just here.
We will go quite soon.
We will go as soon as possible.

or a phrase with a preposition:

He spoke in an angry voice.
They live in London.
We will go in a few minutes.

When I will use past simple and past perfect

the first thing police did were was to retrieve the cctv footage from the parking place. Is it a correct sentences?

Hi dipankar!

It's nearly correct, but you have to decide between was and were (be verb forms). 'First thing' is singular, so you need was. We have pages about the grammar of be as well as information about plural and singular - check them out for more!

Can we say(they just live here)??and whats the difference between this sentence and the *they live just here*.
With my regards

so many thanks to learn English team

goog exercise, but I don't know question 4 clearly :
"The water rose extremely quickly"

following is the structure of the sentence:
The water(subject)rose(verb)extemely(quantifier)quickly(adverb).
i wish that it could help you.

What do you find hard to understand there? Can you be specific about the vocabulary or the grammar you are having problems with?
Best wishes,
