Man: How did it go?

Woman: Umm, I think it went quite well. I did a lot of research and prepared a lot. I was in there for ... I don't know ... half an hour?

Man: And? What did they say?

Woman: Nothing much. At the end I asked them, 'What happens now?', and the woman said, 'We'll call you back with news in three or four days.'

Man: Really?

Woman: Yeah, I think I've got the job. There weren't a lot of other people there. I was the only interview that day, you know?

Man: Well, good luck with it.

B

Man: Anyway, you were saying ...

Woman: Oh, yeah, um ... let's see. Yes, so I was in the museum and there were, I don't know, a hundred people waiting to get into the room. Finally, I got in, and I tried to see the Mona Lisa but I couldn't look at it.

Man: Why not?

Woman: Because the room was filled with people taking photographs of it!

Man: Oh, right.

Woman: Yes! And selfies.

Man: Wait a minute. You can take photos while you're in there?

Woman: Yes, but you can't use flash. I don't know ... Why do we take photos of everything we see when we travel?

Man: I know. And we never look at the photos after.

Woman: Exactly! I'm tired of always taking photos. I don't feel I'm enjoying things.

C

Man: Who took this?

Woman: I can't remember. Hmmm ...

Man: What am I doing?

Woman: You're sitting on the sofa, watching TV and eating chocolates. Nothing changes!

Man: Ha! Very funny. You look very young, though.

Woman: I know. Look at my hair – it was so long!

Man: Mine too, look at me! Hey … I think I know who took this photo.

Woman: Umm … who? Was it Dad?

Man: No, it wasn’t Dad or Mum. Do you remember Barry?

Woman: No.

Man: Yes, YES! You do remember. Barry, your boyfriend at high school. You were seventeen and he was sixteen and he was so very polite: 'Hello, I'm Barry. It's very nice to meet you ...'

Woman: Stop it! He was nice.

Man: Yeah, well, he took the photo.

D

Woman: Let's see. OK. I'm glad we could talk about this. It's not easy to say.

Man: What?

Woman: Well, you're not in our group – for the class project.

Man: What do you mean? You know I'm always in a group with you.

Woman: I know. It's just that this time … this time we made the group differently and because you were late ...

Man: I see. You don't want me in the group?

Woman: No, no. It isn't that. It's that we've already made the group, see? There's four of us already.

Man: So? We can't be a group of five?

Woman: Well, the teacher said four people per group.

Man: Oh.

Woman: It's not about you or your work or anything like that. It's ... errrr ... well, we already have the group.

Man: So I have to find another group.

Woman: I'm sorry.

actually no because I have no opportunity to talk in English however I have learned many phrases in these four conversations and I am sure I will apply them to my conversation in the future if I have a chance to talk about something in English.

Yeah, but it was not me, it was my friend who had the conversation D. That time, my group had one person excess, and the group leader kicked him, haha. The new phrase that I learned is in conversation C. "Yes, you do remember". The word "do" makes the meaning more convincing that she is remember.

Yes, I have ever had a similar conversation with my indian friend. In those conversations, I got to learned some new phrases such as "Bro", "I got it", "Let's do it", ... My listening skill was bad so I can only hear simple words.

Yes, I've heard these kind of conversations, probably in the english movies. I got to learned some new phrases such as "pardon me.", "That makes sense.", and "I understand it clearly as crystal"

Yes, I learn a lot of new sentence, phrases. I'm very happy to here. I'm enjoying this task.

Yes, I have had these conversations in my life. All the phrases in this topic are very useful to me, because with that I can improve my English skills.
These conversations very helpful for me. I tried to listen first and then repeat per conversation and try to explain the content of it. That will make me to improve both my listening and speaking skills. Thanks

Yes, I learnt a lot to your conversation. All teams of British Council is working very hard. Thank you for your work
Yes I have similar conversations sometimes. I already knew phases in these conversations but I learned how to reply naturally as talking with someone.
I was confused question No.6 conversation C.So i listen again and i found out what i missing.
yes, I did have conversations like that in the past. I learned how to say selfies with the right pronunciation.
Thanks a bunch Jonathan! I've found this site the best one to learn English. I'm so happy that I can use these information.
Hi, Would you please explain the below sentence at the of the first conversation? '' I was the only interview that day''. I think something is wrong! Thank you in advance.

Hi kaveh,

It's a correct sentence, actually! It means that the speaker was the only person who was interviewed on that day.

Logically, you might find it strange to say I was the (only) interview, as I refers to a person, and the interview refers to a situation. But, it's quite common to phrase it like this in modern usage. Here are some similar examples:

  • They told me that I was the second interview of four that day.
  • I was the first presentation at the conference, so the audience was full.
  • When I went for my piano exam, I was the last exam of the day.

Does that answer your question?

Question nu.6 Conversation C , I didn't notice that (older boyfriend) now I got it... Thanks a lot, Jonathan R
Hi ! There are four conversations that are very useful for everybody learning English. In my opinion, everybody has to read these over and over again not to learning by heart. That's best way to improve their skills. Beside that, if they had the partner to practising everyday, they would achieved their goals.
No, I have never had similar conservation. but I learned exactly, stop it, let's see and mine too, etc.
6. (Conversation C) The girl had an older boyfriend at school. Is it false or true? I think this is true.

Hi Suraj paliwal,

Actually, the answer is false! The man says, You were seventeen and he was sixteen. So, the boyfriend was younger, not older.

I have never had such a conversation with anyone, too bad but i am learning english to have such conversation.
Have you ever had a similar conversation? What new phrases did you learn in these conversations? Yes, especially the conversation about the holiday. New phrases: - Anything - Already - Etc.
Yes, but mostly it happened to me at school. The phrase I learned was "you will do it right" because in the exhibitions we always gave each other support but very rarely did we discuss in groups.
I think I don't have any conversation similar, but I learning many new phareses for example "Well, good luck with it"
I never had such a conversation with anyone. It's a shame but I am learning English to have such conversations even much complex than this.
I had lot of this kind of conversations, I had to say to my friend that he wasn't more in the work team from the school, this broke-up our friendship, and I had the same experience for this situation in crowded places to visit in a holiday or at vacations. And the new sentence that I had learn is " I think it went quite well"
I think I found a good conversation to recognize a new vocabulary. All kind of vocabulary or phrases are good here such as it was filled with people, we've always made four of us, to get into the room, and to be tried always of taking photos.
Yes, I have the similar conservation about the old photo and to explain misunderstanding me related with project. My friend thinks that I didn't want her to my group. It was not true because my group have already fulled with ten people. But she misunderstand to me. I explained her "don't think like that" but she didn't understand.
i had a similar conversation , it was about an old photo when we were younger , i think this might be a new word it went quite well
Yes.I do have a similar conversation.I've been looking for a job and I've had two interviews, but I haven't found a suitable job yet.I don't like holiday travel, because it's too crowded, if you stand on the high place, you can see many heads covering the scenic spot. Sometimes we open our old photo albums and review our wonderful moments.
I had such conversations as ones in the third topic. Since I left to study we rarely meet with my sister. When I return home we usually recollect the days of our childhood. Sometimes we open the old album. We are so suprised to see us so little. But these moments do us closer to each other.
Recently when we were with my family in Paris. We would like visited Lover to watch on picture Mona Liza. Unfortunately we stayed out in the rain in line about one hour, but can't come into because it begin pandemic. Concluded many public areas were closed. It was end February 2020.
I had a similar conversation as the first one. I'm a job seeker for the last six months, so I had many interviews in different companies. After each interview, I met my friends and explained to them how the interview went, what question did they ask me, and if there is any hope to receive that job. Also, I explained to them about those experiences and I compared them, sometimes I praised the interview panel about the professional attitude, and sometimes I complained about their silly question. Also, I had a similar conversation with my parents about taking pictures during the holidays, they are complaining and being angry when I and my sibling are spending the best part of holidays in our phones, by taking the picture and chatting and as result, we are losing the best moments in holidays. Pictures from your childhood and special occasions can bring wonderful and unforgettable memories. Sometimes a picture can be sent you back on time an make you feel the moments twice. I never had a problem being part of the student's group, because usually, I organized them so I have selected people to be in my group. In this conversation I learned some phrases like; I'm glad we could speak about it, it's not easy filled with people. Thank you.
I have had a conversation similar to conversation C when my friend and I look at the old photo album together. In the album, there is a picture taken when I was in grade 1. At that time, I was fatter and my hair is longer than now. I learned some new phrases in these conversations such as: - I think it went quite well. - I did a lot of research and prepared a lot. - Nothing much. - We'll call you back with news in three or four days. - Let's see... - Wait a minute. - I know. - Exactly! - I don't feel I'm enjoying things. - I'm glad we could talk about this.
Dear team. From the audio above. Man: Yes, YES! You do remember. Barry, your boyfriend at high school. What is the different from 'you do remember' and 'you are remember' ??? Thank you very much for your answer.

Hello fahri,

'You are remember' is not grammatically correct. Normally we just say 'you remember', but when we want to emphasise the action, we can use 'do' with the verb. Here when the man says 'you do remember', it shows that he thought that maybe the woman had forgotten about her boyfriend.

All the best,

I think people nowadays always taking too many photos that not necessary, they don't look at it after, they don't have much value. When hanging out with my friends, sometimes I feel tired because they take all the time to take a photo to post in social media instead to talk with each other
I have conversations about old photos with my family. I often chat on telegram canal sending or getting old photos from or to my friends. I didn't learn any new words as all of them are familiar to me.
Of course, I had some conversations on these topics. I've been on plenty of job interviews and discuss them with my friends and family. And I also tried to see Mona Lisa and also failed, actually. You just can't come nearer because of the crowd. And yeah, I think we take too many photos on our holidays. And then, after returning, we look at them at the most ones or twice. I used to take tons of photos in my past travelings but now I prefer to enjoy the moment of relaxation but not being a photographer only. However, I like to view some old photos. It's funny how we change through time.
Yes, I had a similar conversation about taking a photo when traveling. taking a photo is great, but first, we need to enjoy the view before it. it may be our last chance to come to those places, so we need to memories that beautifully.
