Dear English Team,
I follow big city small world episodes. According to your English test criteria, i am intermediate English level student. is it enough to dedicate an hour time in a day or on the other hand completing one episode each day.if not kindly, advise me and as well as i want to your advise about writing that how many words article should i write daily to improve my writing skill?. is it right to translate news from local language website to English or i should write some thing by my own self rather than translating from local language news to English. Thanks in advance from your always cooperation.

Hello Omer Gul,

An hour a day every day, or at least three or four days per week (or more if you can), should enable you to make good progress. Everyone learns differently, so it's important to assess what you're doing and to experiment with how you're working. If you feel that you're making progress, you probably are, but if not, change the way you study a bit to see if that helps you learn more. If you find something that works, continue with it, but if not, try something new. You can find some ideas about how to study on our Frequently asked questions page and also in the recent comment of another user – these ideas might work for or not, so be sure to evaluate them as you try them.

All the best,
The LearnEnglish Team

Hello all, I also just start learning English from this Site.... really good for me and using one hour a day for that learning.... Can it be enough for one hour a day ? Now start learning Bit City Small World episodes . If have good way to learn English please kindly advise me.... want to step by step ... Let me apologize for my weak English ....

Hi KerryK,

An hour per day is great! If you can keep that up over a good length of time, I expect you'll be able to learn a lot.

To get the most of out of Big City Small World, I'd suggest you first listen to an episode a few times, and then read the transcript as you listen. Then work through the exercises that correspond to the sections you've listened to. Looking at the transcript again, identify some phrases that you think could be useful - they can be phrases you already know but don't use, or they can be new ones - and that you want to learn.

To learn them, and simultaneously work on improving your pronunciation and fluency, imitate the pronunciation of those phrases by repeating them many times. Repeat whole phrases, not just words, because the pronunciation of words in English varies according to context. Repeat these phrases until they're relatively easy to say, and record them in a vocabulary notebook in different categories (e.g. Family, Work, Saying goodbye, etc.) so that you can revise them from time to time.

Using this method, I think you'll find that you can learn an awful lot. It might seem slow at first, but after a few weeks, if you look back at what you've done, I expect you'll see significant progress.

Good luck!

Best wishes,
The LearnEnglish Team

can we use 'say' for telling stories? why don't we use past tense for that? is it correct to use present tense.
