All my happy friends

How well do social media posts show real life? What is the impact of social media posts on how we feel about our lives? Watch this thought-provoking short film by Paul Howard Allen on the topic of social media and mental health.

Do the preparation task first. Then watch the video and do the exercise. Remember you can read the transcript at any time.

Woman1: Yeah, they were smashed. Dave stole this hat from a hen party, nearly got into a fight. Yeah, that was a washout. Never mind.

Woman2: This shot shows how much I’m enjoying being a mother. I’m really treasuring every little moment. And here we all are ... all together … a family.

Man1: It’s just a typical Tuesday meal for us. It shows how healthy and balanced my life is. Made it myself.

Woman3: This photo clearly shows how advanced Millie is. I mean, writing up to five, at her age, is incredible.

Woman4: I mean, look at that beach! That’s what you call white sand, isn't it?

[singing] Three, two, one … Happy New Year!

Woman5: What a New Year’s! If next year is half as good as this one has been, then ...

Woman1: I just don’t know why I’m feeling like this.

[baby crying]
Woman1: This is the life, nothing better than relaxing with a takeaway over New Year’s. Oh, what a night! Another typical evening for me, clearly enjoying myself but then that’s the sort of fun, carefree life I lead.

[baby crying]

[singing] People tell me how I’m a-losing my mind but I tell people you just in my car. Oh, time moves faster than me, can’t you see all this job you been working I’ve been a-running free.

I think, this video is very good to show how are we feeling about other people life's.I guess we live this moment instead of watch the other people moment's.

Hi All,this video is very helpful to learn something new and we can change our mood with social media.

This video is awsome! I like it very much. This story shows the need of the people of feeling special. I think the social media feed the ego and that´s the beginning of the unhapiness. This film, in my opinion, matchs accurate with the reality of the materialist western society

I dont like this exercise

Well I guess I am trying not being affected much by facebook. But sometimes I cant stop asking myself what if I am ? After watching this video my opinion about social media changed considerably and teach me how to engage with it.

I think it does and since I haven't found the best way of spending less time on the social media and I really do not used to do the same the others does, I just don't use them! I mean I have had deactivated my instagram and facebook and I just enjoy of having a great meal or watching a good movie or theatre instead of worring about how would their photos affect the others.

its true. Some people really live this stuation. It is very bad. And everything is not like social media. Instagram or whatsapp or twitter its does not matter.

First thing first, I would like to say that this video is so interesting as it shows the reality of life all around the world nowadays.

It surely has. I think it's such a normal feeling for anyone that sometimes by looking other people posts can consciously/unconsciously affect our mood. It can be positive or negative. It depends on how we respond to them.

In one hand, it can be such a mood booster, a kind of positive energy that can motivate us of doing something positive or being happy.

On the other hand, someone's post can ruin our moods or feeling down and intimidated.

Accordingly, there will always be various efforts to protect ourselves from this problem. One's solution might be different to the others. In my point of view, at first, we should realize that this feeling "it's normal". So, no worries. Secondly, people has their own unique life with the ups and downs. Thirdly, the common solution is we should be grateful for what we have by enjoying each precious moment mindfully.

I myself do realize that it's always never easy to do them in action. At least, we know that life is full of uncertainties with lots of surprises.

So, let's be inspired and inspire others :)

I love your analysis of the movie

That is behaviours types are often in persons with so low self-esteem or they do not feel satisfied with yourself. For instance, when those type persons look posts with wonderful places by your friends they feel sadness or jealousy. That is behaviours types don't affect me yet. Another important aspect is trying to avoid any post with the only intention is affect mood.
